Just read from Dpreview that Sony has announced a whole series of new digicams, the most exciting being Sony DSC-V1. It is a 5mp, 4x optical zoom digicam. Looks really like G3 and I think it is designed to contend with G3 and S602Z. I am really excited because the specs look so perfect! In my opinion, it is the 'most perfect' digicam up to now... you know..5mp, full manual controls, COLOUR SATURATION & TONE adjustment ( wow!! Sony finally did it! ), laser illuminator, 640x480 video ( limited by memory size ), sloe shutter up to 30s, 5 area multi-point AF..... the only downsides are the 4x optical zoom, and the use of MS. Well, hopefully the resolution of the pics will be as good as F707/717. Hee~ just want to inform u guys. ^^ |

Oh yea, Sony's finally done it. A serious contender to the G3, but not the 602z, methinks.

I used the 3.3mp Sony S-75 f2.0 lens carl zeiss lens , got Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual mode. but the auto mode is a real pain in the ass. I read at dpriew that Sony is the King of P/S digital cam. only Sony can take movie as long as your memory stick last and their ifolitium battery is a big plus. Sony have a poor advetistment tactic say compare to Nikon . "the moment you hold in your hand ,you know its built for you" that is how Nikon ad excite you.

Fuji cameras like the S602,M603,F700 have to be satisfied with recording as long as your microdrive lasts. ![]() |

Was deciding to get the G3 until the DSC-V1 came into the picture. Had to admit this baby is an alternative to consider but it will really depend on a few factors (for me, a newbie to photography
)1. Price of the DSC-V1 itself 2. Price of a 512MB MS-Pro 3. Price of 2 InfoLithium batteries 4. Color Saturation of DSC-V1 The price of the camera itself is the most important. Sony digital cameras are usually high priced. Also being a 5MP digital camera, it'd make sense to get at least a 256MB if not 512MB MS-Pro and looking at the price of current MS, don't expect the price of MS-Pro to be below $0.70/MB. Is the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens better than the Canon one used on the G3? I'd think so. What do you guys think? Another thing is that my previous experience with my friend's DSC-P71, I noticed that the colors were not saturated. Though possible to correct with PS, I'd prefer the original to be have proper color saturation. The batteries are proprietary to Sony so again, don't expect it to be cheap. Probably want to get 2 (1 for backup). Good thing abt these batteries are that it can tell you how much battery time there is left. Size factor, the DSC-V1 beats the G3 hands down. It's size is between that of a V3 and a G3 and it's slimer too. I'm still undecided whether to get a G3 next month or to wait till May for the DSC-V1 and decide. Anyone else offers to share their views? |

1. List price of V1 is US$700 which is about $1211 sgd, I think the street price might be about $1k.(correct me if I am wrong) 2. price of 128MB MS now is about $110, so if 512MB should be around $440, seriously, as what I think using MS instead of CF I think the most significant weakness of sony product. 3. The backup 3rd party battery is around $80 for 717, I think V1 backup battery won't be more ex than that, buy one more 3rd party battery plus the original come with camera should can last you very very long (717 is around 8hours shooting time). 4.this I cannot tell you but I would say my 717 color saturation is pretty good, if I am not wrong, the V1 even can adjust it.... so shouldn't be big problem.... I personnally like V1 very much compare to G3(no offence to G3 user). Well, the decision still yours..... ![]() |
