Default Nat'l Geographic Photo Contest

Winner

hmm... a Canon 28-135mm IS lens

And in second place?

a Canon mount Sigma 24-70mm zoom f3.5-4.5

Where're the 'L's and pro's?

Says a lot about "It's the person behind the camera who makes a winning shot", eh?

Keep shooting everyone... cheers!

err...i think u are toking abt the equipment that the winners used?? or the prize that each winner getting..

first prize is 17-Day Chinese Cultural Journey, from Beijing to Hong Kong, for two.

second prize is Six-Day Italian Walking Tour, along the Amalfi Coast and over to Capri, for two

third prize is Six-Day Traditional Maine Windjammer Cruise for two

and the rest are getting Canon EOS Rebel 2000 35mm Camera with 28-80mm Zoom

if u meant the equipment that the winners used....yes...some of them using consumer equipment...and they still get into top 10 out of 13000 entries

it was NEVER the equipment... but the person BEHIND the equipment that made those shots happen....

Time and luck plays a part... as Einstein said it himself: "1% inspiration 99% effort"

or is it Edison... hmm .....

the photos are really nice but somehow.. I think it lacked a more humane touch for the winning photo (IMHO)

It was Edison who said that, he's the 'hardworking' one.

And yes, it's always the person behind the camera, and never the equiipment. Like John Shaw said, "not once did my lenses go out and take pictures".

Perhaps the narration of the photos also played a part in the judges decision, I've yet to go through them.

So why bother spending thousands on equipment when the only thing you should work on is your ownself?

Training how you view situations, perspectives and composition will get you much further than dumping tons of cash into expensive equipment.

You have any idea about the difference between a 28-70L and a 28-135 IS USM lens?
