Is there anyone out there is influencial enough to get the major retailers to update their price list every week, like the hardwarezone, which is a pretty successful way of providing a very convenient method as well as cultivate a more competative prices among these retailers. I hope the CS will give these benefit to the CS members, by not imposing any fees on these retailers. What do u guys think?

the best list is the list of retailer's telephone numbers...
![]() there's already a list of "latest" prices in this subforum.

the current price list required CS members to update, and there are items that was not updated if no one ask for those quotes. Like hardwarezone, the retailers automatically update the list weekly, those numbers will be accurate and they will try to give very competative price update. Isn't that a more straight forward, rather than going thro' so many hands info and rather than just as a "guide"?

Sure, it benefits the consumer in the end, but retailers have enough on their hands. BTW, the price guides are updated quite regularly, even when no one asks for a price of a certain item. |

instead of retailers updating every subforum, they just have a list of items fr each shop e.g. TKfoto Body: Nikon D200 - $xxx Canon 30D - $yyy Pentax K10D - $zzz Lenses: Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 - $___ Nikon AF-S 17-55 f2.8 - $ ___ etc etc ... But unless someone approaches the shops, I don't tink this is going to happen... |

In fact this is at the advantage for the retailers, as they save a lot of time in replying the e-quote requests daily, and the customers have an idea what are expected before they approcah the retailer. If Hardwarezone can do it, I don't think they can't do it.

For this to happen, IMO, there needs to be a further and greater form of incentive for them to update theirindividual price list(s).

As compared to the computer related market, there're probably much lesser retailers for photography stuff (reffering those like CP, MS, TK etc.) As such, i believe that it'll be 'less competitive' for all of the retailers to update on their own accord. Like wad ipin mentioned, there isn't much of an incentive.
Secondly, TS mentioned about HWZ offering the service. I used to frequent the forum as i'm a hardware addict too. Now that even SPH sees it as a money earning tool (took over IIRC), it has been made too much a 'commercialized' website, instead of a community where like minded people gather, share, talk, etc. Thus, focus is different. They have got people behind the scenes to moderate/update those pricelist/reviews/news sections and some are paid to do so. I'm sure folks here do not wish Clubsnap to evolve into a commercial website. just my 2 cents worth. =) |

Clubsnap IS a commercial site, just that majority of the functions need not be paid for.
If everyone looked at price alone, then there'd be ONLY ONE shop having a good time monopolizing Singapore over camera prices. |

Agree with you that if prices should not be the only factor to consider during purchase. But i'm sure different shops would have different 'forte'. Some may be able to offer a lower price for certain items but not others. Not so much of a monopoly. At the end of the day, as consumers, i'm sure no one wants to pay too much more for perks. |
