Hi everyone,
I'm currently putting together a proposal to stage a photography exhibition. It's basically to tie-in with an online event I've been organising for the past 5 years called ten/twentyfour. You can see more about it at my website. This year I hope to do it in an actual exhibition space. The exhibition, tentatively to be held in Oct, will consist of several parts - a showcase of photographers' works, a workshop/talk on alternative photography for the public, and an actual shoot using analog and other 'alternative' cameras. The focus would be to highlight the fun possibilities one can have with alternative photography. Would anyone here be interested in collaborating with me on this, either by showcasing their cameras, or putting together the workshop or talk? I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, so if I can put together a panel of speakers, that would be ideal. So far I have NLB interested supporting me, space-wise, so it's likely that the exhibition will be at one of the public libraries. There's no money involved - I can't pay you, sorry, mainly because I'm not getting paid to do this. I also don't plan to charge fees for the event. It's strictly voluntary, so do say yes only if you're ready to commit some time (to meet up, discuss, run the workshop, give the talk, put up the exhibits etc). Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to chip in money or anything, but help with finding sponsors will be useful. I'm looking for a small group, maybe three or four easygoing people, so that it's easier for me to manage and organise things. If you're interested, please PM me your email, so that I can arrange to meet with you personally. If you can't help out, you're still most welcome to support this as a participant. I will put out an open call for submissions in the upcoming months. The submissions will then be curated and selected by me. I know I'm still new here, so I'll end off with a brief intro - I'm an independent visual artist. Last year I quit my job to concentrate on art because I felt I would be happier pursuing something I was passionate about. I'm trained in fine arts, but I've been doing mostly photography for the last few years. I've showcased my works abroad, in Berlin and New York, and will be holding my first photography exhibition in Singapore this June. Feel free to PM me if you need more info. Thanks for reading. Great Idea!
Even though I will not be able to help out in anyway due to my tight schedules I will definitely be there to visit the exhibitions and possibly bring my students along! |

Thanks for the encouragement, folks. So far, a few people have PM'd me, I'll get in touch with you and update some more once I've sorted out the details.
Yup, printing sponsor is very important. I'll be writing in to a few people like Epson, etc. If anyone has any leads, or contacts, let me know. Much appreciated. |

sounds interesting, i just started to build my own digital pinhole camera out of a D70, its lots of fun (and hard work). should be interesting to see what else is possible away from the mainstream... be it analog or digital
