Hi guys, I was previously targetting Nikon's D80 due to my familiarity with Nikon's prosumer cam.. However, having read abt DSLRs, quite interested to look into Canon for its lower noise with high ISO & better out of camera pics... r these the right reason to go with Canon?
Wad would be a gd alternative to D80? |

Canon 400D would be the alternative to the Nikon D80. Specification wise, both camera are very similar.

lower noise in high ISO is a good reason, i'm not sure about better out of camera pics. i think that's a bit more subjective. i sometimes have to PP my white balance when shooting in weird lighting (think indoors with yellow down lights and white flash)...guess the camera can't get it right 100% of the time.
imo, i prefer Canon. no bias there. =P

better out of camera pics
now that is one good reason to buy a certain DSLR. A camera that takes GOOD PICTURES OUT OF THE CAMERA. Heard that NIKON? LOL. again, good is subjective. anyway, at least its a better reason to buy a DSLR rather than "build quality". LOL> |

400D would be the direct competitor...the stock lens from D80 is better, though at a much higher price.

400D is Canon's equivalent.
As you probably have heard a lot. Go down to the shop and get a feel for both. Don't buy already then regret because "I can't figure out how to do this", or "the body feels weird in my hands". IMHO, Canon's menus are much more logically laid out. Figured out how to use it within a day. |
