How to make this photo better?

Due to the distracting red patch in the BG, I used chanel mixer to convert the BG to B&W. Seem like its lacking punch. How to make it better?

I took the liberty of using the same series in your another thread.

Sorry, going for meeting, done 2 min on the PS. It may have a little glitches, but you got the idea.

more saturation and sharpenening in the interesting skirt, and less empty foreground, not unlike Andy's tighter crop.

No lah. I did nothing to the crop. These are 2 different images of the same series.

I will try to give #1 some USM sharpenning and adjust its saturation.
