Arrow Ridata 150x CF/SD Promotion!!!

Saw this ad at HardwareZone!

The 4GB 150X SD looks delicious to me! I think i can dump away 2 of my Sandisk Ultra II for one stick of this!

Anybody got any comment on Ridata flash cards?

u can always check robgalbraith's site on CF/SD card performances.

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007

based on the 2GB speed in a D50, the ridata card's performance is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Used it on a D200 and IMO, cannot tell the difference between an Extreme III and this Ridata 150x 8Gb CF cards!
Been using this for several shoots and even filled it up it max capacity and hasn't failed me. No error messages or anything. *TOUCH WOOD*

With 4GB SDcards, one caution, though, is to watch out for compatibility issues in your current or future equipment - for SD 4GB upwards, by SD Association's requirements, these cards should fall into the SDHC category, and for it to work, ur equipment has got to specify SDHC compatible. Currently now, no SDHC cards are available at 150x rated speeds.

Then comes the compatability issue of your camera body and SDHC cards.

is the 4GB SD card a SDHC card? i have heard that high-speed SDHC cards are questionable when it comes to reliability of the rated speed, meaning that the speed at times would shoot up and at other times run at normal SD card speeds.

is that true?

Was at EG this evening. The 4GB SD card is not SDHC card. You can purchase 4GB SDHC card from CP, AP or MS at lower price that 4GB 150X SD Card.

Frankly, S$199 for 8GB CF is a steal at this moment. It is Taiwan made with life time warranty from Ritek.

Yes, it is tempting. At S$199, it is the best value for $$$ now. Only time will tell of it reliability and worth.

any SD card above 2GB has to be SDHC. otherwise there may be compatibility issues (see link below).
that being said, if it works with your camera, go ahead.

if it's not SDHC, i'm gonna hold-back on the purchase as SDHC was created to ensure compatibility or reliability of high capacity SD cards (abv. 2GB) and i probably wouldnt trust anything above 2GB that isn't SDHC =(

Same here. I'm carrying 2x 2gb instead of a 4gb because of this issue. I'll wait for more class 6 SDHC 4gb cards to come out in the market first before making the jump.

I've been using Ridata 4GB card for quite a while already.
I'll favour it over Transcend (they're not too bad) and Kingston (OMG horrible) and Lexar (don't get me started on how unreliable Lexar is).
As for Sandisk.. I've not used Extreme before, so I can't quite comment, but generally IMHO Sandisk cards are way overpriced.

Personally, I wouldn't buy more memory cards than I need. The prices will just keep dropping. No point buying many more extras just because they're cheap.
Having a few gb of standby storage should be more than enough for most people. Anymore it's like throwing $$ away.

I can still hear the cry of my friend who bought a 2gb card at $500+ a couple of years ago..
