Default Photos for Lightbox

Hi, I need some pointers...

I am offered a job about taking photos of chinese cuisine dishes for a chinese restaurant (perhaps for a kopitiam?). the final products are lightbox that will mount on the wall: photo will be printed at size 24" x 24". I am currently owning a Coolpix 5000 (2560 x 1920 pixel), I tried to measure in photoshop. I can get 102ppi if print at 24"x24". Can this resolution produce acceptable result if print at high resolution by professional printer?

Thank you!

u can interpolate your pixels. but your source need to be noise free to start with.

If your camera is known to produce noise, when u enlarge it, the noise become more visible. but it all depends on how far is the person viewing. If its behind the counter or on higher side wall, then from far, noise will not be that visible.

best is to take a good picture file and ask your printing company to test a small portion

Hi,

Unless your resultant image is of a high quality..menaing..sharp, noise free. then it should be no problem. but any blemishes or camera shakes will result in it being very obivous.

i will actually recommend you to rent a camera from the folks here...e.g. a D70 should do the job well enough.

Else you like what ortega say, you can do a sample print. I am able to help you with it if you are interested.

Thanx
Pierce

I have used the Coolpix image (please shoot in RAW) and printed them to larger sizes and had no problems. But you have to make sure your lighting is done well and shadows, if any, has to be touched up carefully to hide the noise. It is a lot of work. But good experience. And a reason to go DSLR too with the money.

Hi, thanks for all your pointers.. I'll try these out, might instead rent a camera. Oh by the way, I remember there's a section for renting equipment at this site, but seem no longer here?

24" x 24".... very hard with your nikon coolpix, there is a reason for using dslr and MF/ digital back resolution unless your media is newspaper....

try to borrow a dslr, shoot F5.6 and smaller and make sure no shadow or underexposure like what the other have already highlighted.

good luck.
