This one worth mentioning that when I first started taking avian pics 2 years ago, I saw Peng Eik's parakeet landing shot. The pic was so powerful that it is always in my mind ...
I wanted this pic very much although it is a poor replication of his shot ... Green Beeeater Taken in Thailand ![]() |

Thanks for the kind comments. Appreciate your advise. will definitely try harder next time ...
Problem is that my lens has a fixed focus length. Can not zoom. In anticipation of flight, if we put in too tight a frame, may end up cutting wings or tail. Also moving in too close, these fellows will get spooked and do not engage in their routine activities ... thanks once again for viewing and advise cheers |

, the zoom I meant was cropping and showing it as a bigger photo, I do understand you were using prime lens. Thanks for explaining, noob here, learn something today. |

Thanks Wilson for the dedication and reminder of the joy of nature photography. Awesome pic of the bee-eaters, they are always my favorite subjects. I understand the reddish cast as it is natural as this is what you get in the red earth terrain there, perhaps a little de-saturation may be applied.
Sorry for this long winded posts. This post really makes me miss the joy of avian photography and makes me smile in reminiscence. You are The original two images you are referring to are actually gone. What I have is left with only small images of them (lost them while spring cleaning my hard drives - no back up on CD) They were taken at Keppel Country Club for their newsletter. And it was just pure luck that, I happened to see a shadow of another bird approaching and just machine gunned away (D2h then) , managed to get 2 frame of the approach. I have taken the liberty to show them here. 2 secs before the action ![]() both this and next pic less than 1 sec (Date/Time 14-Feb-2005 10:12:22) ![]() (Date/Time 14-Feb-2005 10:12:22) ![]() Once again thanks Wilson for rekindling the passion for avian photography, though it will be some time before I get my butt moving. ![]() Last edited by chngpe01; 1st February 2007 at 09:04 AM. |

Great avian shots never fail to stop my breath. Nice capture there. And it is interesting to note that the colour cast was from the environment. This really documents the environment where the bird is in. Great capture.
I am also one who misses PE's avian shots. Been a fan of his for years. |

Amazing capture Dr. Wilson! Good timing.
I missed PE's shots too, it was his shots (and Avatar's too) in CS WoN that really inspired me and many others out there. Hope you will find the inspiration and time to get back to avian photography, and produce more 'wow' shots to inspire us. |

Peng Eik! Long time no see you....didn't realise that you're the mod of this forum.
Hope you remember me...Dixon from MUGS. Missed the gatherings where you brought your 'tua-leng-kong' lenses & showed us your great avian shots on your Powerbook. If I remember correctly, I was most impressed with your series of shots of a bird landing to feed the little ones.
