Thanks for the compliment. That was what I was trying to achieve, capturing their emotions and the energy of the performance rather than static shots.

Bean: I took some shots, but the angles and expressions captured weren't flattering...so I omitted them.

afiend: No problems.

From what I know, only the Official Photographers and the Nanyang Chronicle photographers are allowed.

Please refrain from displaying these photos till you have the permission.
Sorry wasn't aware of this.

Since you say that explicit permission is required, then I will remove all my images from here.

Please understand that the CAC Talentime Special Projects Committee had left me in charge of the photography of the event. Hence I would have to ensure that the event coverage is our under control. Also, you had not acknowledge that the organiser is NTU CAC Talentime.

It's not that you are not allowed to post your photos here. As long as you are granted the permission, then by all means. I will have no objections then.

Ok. The acknowledgement part can be easily remedied.

Can you elaborate on how I may go about getting permission? If it's too bothersome then I'll just leave it as it is.

Pity I missed the shots before they were removed.

Was there as audience that day but regretably didn't occur to me that I should have brought along my camera as I managed to get a seat just 5 rows from the front ( which would work quite well with a monopod to get level shots and not up the nose shots)

Just for those who wasn't there, when a lady came out from the backstage to present Yong Bang with a bouquet of flowers, he took it, knelt down, there and then, whilst singing his love ballad, and gave it right back to her! When the embarrassed girl finally relented and accepted the flowers and he took her hand, finshed off the song and walked off the stage with her hand in hand.

Now THAT's something I would like to see taken. Anyone got a shot of that? When he had first knelt down, I was thinking to myself, "Photogs! Get a shot already!" But I'm not sure why but all the photogs seemed to be busy at that time doing something else.

sorry if this sounds like a flame...but i just wanna make a comment on the hard handed approach by mervlam. Basically this was just someone who wanted to post pics on an event. Does he need to get permission to post it? I would think that if the event organisers allowed people to bring cameras in to snap their friends in action or whatever, then they dont have much of a right to 'disallow' them to post it. unless of course it was stated in the ticket or at the point of allowing the cameras that the photos are not allowed to be posted online, which i doubt. Also, if cameras were not allowed but subsequently slipped thru, then whose fault is it?

In any case, what sort of right is mervlam relying on? Just cos you are the official photog doens't prevent anyone else from posting stuffs. in which case, if this rule holds, all events where there are prese photogs...eg. my dream girl, new paper new face, will not be allowed to post. even if the event is a paid one, it is just a matter of contract, which if it wasn't stated that posting was not allowed....then on what basis is the right asserted?

Just my opinion. not a big deal since the images were removed.

Zerstorer, I suggest you delete this thread (this is getting pointless and OT now).

My feel on this issue is should there be any problem of photographers other than the officals shooting away, the organiser should do something about it at that point of time. By continuing to let the unofficial photographers shoot away, the blame should not fall entirely onto the unoffical photographers for just showing his works.

Like elutris, I was also sitting quite close to the stage, at the 6th or 7th row. The lighting this year was much better than last year. If I did not remember wrongly, there is a small number of unofficial photographers that came down to the front of the stage this year, and there are many others who shot using their P&S away from the stage.

I remember last year when I was covering for Impressiro 2002, there was this photographer wearing bright white using a digital SLR, firing away in high speed mode... Before he came, there was already a photographer present from Chronicle. Because that digital photographer was wearing white, and the Photo-Videographic Society was filming the event on video as well, I told the organiser that this white photographer would be distrupting the video-filming process (try imagine a white figure walking left to right at the bottom of the screen). Anyway, after asking for his identity, he told me that he was from the Chronicle. Never knew then that Chronicle sent more than a photographer for a event.

Final note: all photographers in NTU should work together for the common aim of promoting photography in school and not quarrel amongst ourselves over issues like this.

Zerstorer, maybe you could let mervlam know that you are interested in covering events and he might consider you for any future events....

If the event is on a large scale, they sometimes do send 2 or even 3 photogs. Impressario could probably take up the centerpiece of the Nanyang Chronicle so perhaps they need more shots from different people with different styles.

Doesn't Singapore's copyright law grants automatic copyright rights to any photog and the photos he takes? Once he has taken this photo, he has the exclusive rights to use it in anyway he wants.

The photog may not reproduce these images should he have an agreement with the company or organisation he works for (unless he/she seeks their consent)

So the impression I get is that any unofficial photographers are allowed to post photos at free will but for the official photographers, they will have to seek permission first.

Just learnt this in law lecture last week...

Shall bring this case up with my law lecturer for self interests and see the outcome.

Yah yah elutris, ask your lecturer about it...

Maybe can suggest to him to give a talk/seminar in NTU about Copyright Issue of photographers in Singapore. I'll definately sign up and encourage fellow photographers in NTU to attend....

elutris, do you think it is possible?

btw, where does the images taken by Chronicle go to? Archival?

elutris and those from NTU, have you added yourself to the following list?

Cheers!

That is what I have been saying, that the unofficials have the right to anything they like with it, subject to any express or implied terms either in the entrance ticket or when they were expressly told they couldn't post in exchange for permission to shoot. if the organisers neglected these two points, they only have themselves to blame when the pics get posted. Hence mervlam shoudln't use such a hard handed approach to intimidate zerostorer into removing his photos cos he prob doens't have the right to make such a demand anyway.

hope to see the pics back.

Cheers
