I prefer Tokina, even an old Tokina 20-35 that I still have is compatible with my latest 5D MKII. My Tokina 10-17 FE works a treat on my 20D too.
Not to forget, they are built like tank. Perhaps the only disadvantage I find with them is their focusing speed isn't as quick as the Canon lenses.
bad advice... you don't have to re-chip for front/back focus issue, can be easily calibrated. sigma does it free of charge regardless of no warranty or grey lens.

this front/back focusing is really non-issue for sigma. i don't understand why so many people make a fuss. make an appointment, go down to service centre, send it in, drink kopi, go back in 2 hrs and get your lens back. don't even have to leave it there for a few working days unlike the other service centres.

Hey bro, I am not refering to the front and back focusing issue! I am talking about backward compatability issue. which actually means, a Sigma lens is only compatible with Camera that is currently on market and those that has been released in earlier years. You may not be able to use it on a DSLR that says, produce a few years down the road.

I never buy 3rd party unless it has a lens which is superior to the original such as the Voigtlander 15mm which has no competition

i used 3rd part Sigma 12-24mm for my D700 so far is good but i only use it for lanscape. The rest of my lenses are all Nikkor lens. I suggest if you have enough spare of $$$ then go for original. It's worth for your money and u will not regret. I have 70-200mm, 200mm F4, 17-55mm for my D80 are they my great glass.

I'm more than happy with my Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 as was built like a tank and performs as a charm But unfortunately I had to get the Nikon 18-200 for an all in one zoom as the Tamron that I tried was crap and Sigma was no where near the quality of Nikon. When it comes to Macro nothing beats the 105mm Micro Nikkor and I didn't think twice to get it.

I have a Sigma 17-35mm which is ok but hope to upgrade to EFS 18-55mm in the near future. The IQ's ok but focusing is not consistently accurate.

The Sigma 150mm macro is good & it won't be leaving me anytime soon.

Used to have 4 Canon lenses. Now only 1 and 7 alternative lenses. Still buying alternatives but maintain Canon body as it can accept more alternative lenses than any other body.

Sigh, I had my first camera 20 years ago and throughout these 20 years (16 yrs as working adults), I have only progressed from 5000i, 500si, 800si, A2, 7D, A350 and A900. Look at the stark difference ! sob sob... students these days are so fortunate. Btw, just to add so that don't digress too much from the topic, my lens are majority 3rd party.

Lots of them in fact. Think we consumers are really spoilt for choice.

I always only used Canon lenses until i tried my friends Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 Lens, for me the focal range was good and it suited me just fine so i now have that and I have also just ordered the Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is yet to arrive.

Some third party lenses are cheap and nasty as are some Canon ones, i try to stick with the high end models regardless of brands.
