CNET has published an interesting feature on HD Photo, a compressed image file format developed by Microsoft that offers a number of potential advantages over the ubiquitious JPEG today. HD Photo (known until recently as Windows Media Photo) promises better quality at similar rates of compression than JPEG, supports 16-bits per colour and 32-bits per colour photos and uses internally the ultrawide scRGB to represent image colours.
