This must have been the luckiest day of my 2 years birding journey. This is the first time i seen a hawk/eagle/kite so close to me. I always see white bellied sea eagle but they are always flying up in the sky..
I was standing under another tree shooting king fisher when suddenly my gf shouted to me tat she saw a bird that is real BIG... i ignore her at first as my view of the kingfisher i m shooting is excellent, and i dun wan to sacrifice my kingfisher shots. However, she shouted to me again when the BIG bird fly to the river and grab a fish and fly back up into a tree. When i turn my head to her, i can see the BIG bird flying with a fish in the leg up onto the tree... I immediately heck care the kingfisher and run to the tree where the BIG bird is..and oh my gosh... its really a very pretty sight that i will never forget in my life... I wanted to go nearer to the bird, but in between me and the bird is some very thick and large pile of construction mud and i can only stand approx. 20-30m away and see/shoot the BIG bird. From wat i estimate, the bird is ~ 80cm tall and the wing span is easily 1-2m wide... The only sad thing is on that day, the sky is super uber overcast and the lighting is ultra terrible. I had no choice at all but to up the iso to 640 on my D70s and ya, it sux. But thank god i just bought the SB800 a week ago and i can use a higher speed and use the flash to compensate for the additional lighting required. This is the best image i can salvage, hope u guys enjoy it... btw i hope someone can identify this BIG bird... i have no clue wat it is... definitely not a white bellied sea eagle, not a brahminy kite, not a black shouldered kite.... is this a changeable hawk eagle? #1 The iso is already very bad at 640, but the compression made it worst... i got no choice but to use very very low quality to make it under 100kb to upload here #2 Not a really good day for me though as it was raining and stopping and raining and stopping the whole day, and i forgot to bring my umbrella! i m drenched through the whole body but luckily my lowepro bag got the AW cover to make it waterproof and protect the equipments...

Should be a sub-adult white-bellied sea eagle (2nd or 3rd year), which has a more mottled plumage.

They don't develop the solid white belly until the 3rd-4th year; see http://www.naturia.per.sg/buloh/bird...eucogaster.htm and http://besgroup.blogspot.com/2006/06...sea-eagle.html and
