wow this is on DPreview's page now.
that is some lens! Too bad haven't found a detailed review on the photo quality. 28-500mm is REALLY sweet (500mm will be very usable due to IS) |

Precursor to a in-body IS Olympus dSLR? ![]()
Think this is a world-first for a compact with such a lens construction. ![]()

and oh, i got to add this as well, it's fully compatible with the Olympus WCON-07 and TCON-17 to make the focal length even more delicious (see maths below)
WCON-07 = 0.7 x 28 = 19.6mm TCON-17 = 1.7 x 504 = 856.8mm i wonder how's the burst mode like on this little camera? the 15 fps is only at smaller resolution. but how many fps for full res? we'll have to wait for more details... Last edited by michhy; 25th January 2007 at 02:58 PM. |

how much is the TCON-17 now in local stores? ...and xD cards are not really that bad (though still more ex), just that they need more tender loving care than sdcards/cfcards. Any idea of pricing for the sp550uz?
from Steve's Digicam, est. street price is USD500, so we're looking at around SGD800 to 1K?? Availability in the US is Mar07, so maybe May07 in SG. ![]() Last edited by micah4; 25th January 2007 at 04:29 PM. |

HOLY COW!
Just read the preview of the 550UZ on dcresource...It looks REALLY nice; it's an OlyTech advertisment, i.e. CCD-shift IS, 15 fps (1.2MP) Pre-Capture (last seen in Oly's E-100RS), takes 30fps movies, has an underwater housing (PT-037), and a quite amazing 4.7-84.2mm (28-504mm 35mm eq.) f2.8-4.5 lens which focuses as close as 10mm, as well as full manual modes and RAW. No sample pictures yet, but if the IQ is at least as good as the C-X0X0 series then folks, we have a winner. This, I suspect, is a pre-PMA 07 appetizer. If Oly puts all this on a prosumer P&S, I WONDER what they'll put on the new pro bodies... ![]() |

According to Steve's Digicam, the expected street price is US$499.00. Not bad huh.

If that camera was available when I shopped for my E-300, I might have bought it instead (since I was upgrading from a C-700) (if it was a bit wider).

That's a reasonable price - most newer cameras in that category are priced similarly when they get released. No issues on the price. As for XD cards, I use them on my Fuji too, and I find it faster than my CF card when saving and reading. Maybe only problem is cannot be used on other cameras.
