but i wonder....why use expodisc in studio?

ain the best way is to know the temp of the lights, and set it manually in the dslr?
that way u wont go wrong right?
From what I know, the use of RED background can be tricky... The background will reflect the light so badly hence causing a red cast...

    thanks for the heads up.

like i said before, i used canon b4, but that was before i bought the f5.
    and that wasnt digital.
so...maybe times have changed.i thought canon could have made their cameras more user friendly.i find it sort of user-unfriendly.

btw, all images on that day, shot in raw. Even in raw, you can only recover so much. When you start applying noise reduction (nomatter which program you use) the picture starts to degrade.

This is same with WB. If you have to pull so much this way or that way, frinding starts to appear, image quality starts to degrade.
Just using the preset WB should give you somewhere near ba... One can't go so far off until it exceeds the tolerant limit of editing bah...

but you aint suppose to point the expodisc at the red background mah.you point straight at the studio strobes, tk a reading mah.you do it in such a way that the digital back of your camera is facing the backdrop.will the red color really affect the reading so much?
i'm as noob as you are.but i thought that's the way to use the expod.

What I meant was like you get the model to sit down on the floor or even lie down... The light reflected from the background will give that red cast on the face...

Both Nikon and Canon are ok in that respect... just a matter of getting use to the position of the buttons and dials.

In fact, I like the dials of the Minolta 7D.

then maybe you should use some big black cloth, cardboard or what-have-u that's black and put in around the model so that the red doesnt get reflected?
i swear i read this somewhere.

what he needs is to get the model to hold the gretagmacbeth color chart.
take a shot, and do post processing and apply to the entire series.then confirm skin tone super spot on.
