Would you rather get a d50 or a d40? It would be nice to hear from your opinions.

Hmmm... actually after thinking about it, i think it's better to get the d50, one reason being the availability of lenses. Unless someone thinks d40 is better than d50, do voice out your views..

if i had to make a choice between d40 and d50, i would go for the d50 since i can still use auto focus af-d lenses on it. auto focus is only limited to af-s lenses on d40.
so u cant use auto focus with lens such as 50mm/f1.8 on your d40. |

d50 will be better as most ppl mentioned here, able to autofocus(af) on af-d lens. For D40, lens tat can af is dx lens by nikon, hsm enabled lens by sigma.

erm, i think you are confusing DX and SWM... DX is just simply means that the lens is meant for APS-C sensor (will vignette very badly on FF cam), and it got nothing to do with focusing.

For travels with a simple do-it-all lens, such as the kit lens or 18-200... then go get the D40. Simple, light and cheap. For one who wants a lil more choices in lenses esp with AF, AF-D type, then you can look at the D50 or the D80... |

They already stop production of D50. Currently in production is D40, D70s, D80 and D200.

In agreement with most here... AF-D lens compatibility is important. Like what a bummer, with the D40 you cannot use all the great lenses! 50/1.4, 85/1.4, ... and the list goes on.
