I am a student at SSDC.

Started my practical lessons in May and I was soooo naive into thinking that I could book my practical test very soon after I complete all my required subjects. But it was only one of the instructors who finally told me there's always at least a 3 to 4 month wait!!! Arghh!!!

I finished all my subjects within 2 mths, but now my practical test is in November.... Wah....

Is there any way I can speed up and have an earlier driving test date?
Same for me, I started in late Dec, booked and passed my first test on 21 May...!
    at BBDC.

I've managed to book an earlier test date which is in mid October. Have been monitoring
the test date at the website for the past few days, very tiring

I have problem turning the steering wheel 1 round to the right or left without looking at the
steering wheel...it always not a full 1 round or I turn too much become more than 1
round...it becomes a serious problem for me esp. when come to parking, out of alignment
most of the time...any experts can help to enlighten me ?

    Thanks in adv !!

I don't know what they teach in Singapore - I've never heard about counting the revolutions of the steering wheel. To drive/park, you use your eyes to compare where the car is heading vs. where you want it to go, and correct accordingly. Similarly, bicycle/motorcycle riders don't use protractors to determine how much they should turn the handle bar to keep their balance.

this is theory for first time drivers...not everyone is able to judge well...got to have something new drivers to learn from also...even SAF also teaches like that...

I'd strongly advocate to not cling to cookie-cutter instructions, but use your own judgement. You can't really learn to ride a bicycle either by reading, you have to do it.

If you are really good at parallel parking with a 3/4 turn of the steering wheel, but the manual says you should do a full turn, what would you do? And do you think all cars have the same steering characteristics?

I notice that in this thread, a lot of attention is paid to small technicalities, e.g. how to release the clutch, when exactly to shift gears, etc. I would argue it's infinitely more important to focus on road safety. Stalling the engine is mildly embarassing and may hurt your ego, but an accident may result in physical harm.

Here's a true story (although admittedy I may not remember all the details accurately) that happened a few years ago in Germany. In poor visibility, a BMW driver relied on the instructions of his fancy GPS navigation system, which told him to turn. The car ended up in a river, as the GPS didn't tell him that after turning, he had to wait for the ferry to arrive.

If the driving centres really emphasize blindly following standard operating procedures, they are IMHO in need of a big whack with the clue stick.

Next mth my test, really hope to pass. Why?

It is because yesterday raining cat n dog, me outside khatib camp waiting for a taxi n I am without an umberlla.

Waited for ard 5 mins n got 2 to 3 taxi refuse to pick me up. Too bad that I couldn't see their plate number else sure make a complain. Some time when I see taxi circle for passengers, serve them right as when got, they reject.
