i thought of getting either a firestore or citidisk unit.
anyone here using the firestore or citidisk? can share with everyone the problems you have faced in your filming or editing workflow. i have got the quote and pricing for the firestore and it looks reasonable. anyone else intend to get a unit? maybe can conduct a mass order. |

Have you considered the new SONY 60Gb. It uses the SONY NP Batts and has a 14 sec loop buffer. ie the clips will include 14 sec of image before the cam starts recording. More expensive but it's better tan both you are looking at.
My experience with any device connected to an external HD is the firewire connections. No way to see if the recording is cut of dure to poor connections. The SONY has many added features that will indicate if the rec has failed. But as a safety net, always rec on both HD and tapes. |

i did consider the new Sony device as well but the price is on the high side.
as to my understanding on the firestore and citidisk units, they do have buffer though i don't know the exact length. from my discussion with the agents from firestore and citidisk, the firestore system is more mature whereas citidisk came out only recently and citidisk made sure that they don't make the same mistakes as firestore but online reviews by users in US have better things to say about firestore than citidisk iirc. what you mentioned about the added features of the sony unit are also available on firestore such as clip check, clip delete, clip repair, system diagnostics, system reformat and many more built into the unit without requiring a desktop. citidisk's small lcd panel is their biggest problem because you have to remember the symbols to understand what the unit is trying to tell you. the biggest advantage about firestore is if you buy a DV unit today, your investment is protected as you can upgrade the firmware to make it to a HD unit say two years down the road for a small fee compared to citidisk where you have to decide now DV or HD as they cannot upgrade the firmware....you have to buy a new unit altogether. i think all external devices require a tight fit otherwise data communications will be disrupted. and yes tommon, if i do get one of these devices, i will definitely still record to tape as a backup. thanks for your input. |

Currently, we rather shoot into a laptop safer, not to metion remote preview on a larger screen and still cheaper than buying any of these device. Also can do quick edit at the end.

Hi. Are you talking S$? Which model is that, is it the FS-4Pro HD 60GB? I am interested in HD to use with my Canon XH-A1, so must be able to work with M2T files.
I don't mind to join for mass order if the unit is suitable. Richard |
