I have a D70 that is about 2yrs old.Shutter count less than 10k
Recently realize after 2 yrs of using that there was a problem when using the left and right focusing points.(Out of focus) Send it in to NSC and was told that the AF mechanism was faulty and it cost $260 before GST. My question : Is it worth it ? All this time I thought that it was my fault the the focus was out. (hand shake) The center AF point which I usually use has no problems. Every other functions of the camera is still OK Any suggestions ? |

Decided not to repair it. I can still live with only the center AF pt after all I have been doing it since I bought the camera. ![]() |

Good choice. You can still do everything with the centre points. No use spending money for focusing points that u don't use.

I personally find that the other focusing points are not as accurate compared to the centre one.... You Can focus, lock, then recompose your shots.... Just that it's kind of troublesome sometimes...

Since my film days, I've used centre point, AF-lock, recompose, shoot. I'm sure with a little practice, you can live with just the centre point.
When the centre point dies, then... BBB![]() |

Thanks for the replies.
I was also a film user until Contax decided to closed shop. So I have only been using the center point. (Seldom use the side pts until recently at the zoo) To me having any form of AF is better than none. (All my lenses were MF) Age catching up eyesight also not so good. But I wonder if this is a common problem with the D70 can any one else confirm? yilishengxian side focus pts are also acting up. Last edited by mega32; 18th January 2007 at 11:53 PM. |

Seldom use those pts so never notice. |

Took some pictures of the tigers at the zoo with a 80-400 mounted on a tripod. When focus with the center pt very sharp. then tried a picture with the tiger lying on its side change the pt to the right one the picture a bit blur like those with handshake or subject's movement. Came back home align 3 batteries on the floor at different distance tried to focus using the left, center and right pts. center sharp. left and right OOF. Same result with the 50mm ,90mm ,28-75 mm @f2.8 and f4 Last edited by mega32; 19th January 2007 at 01:00 AM. |

As sharp as? Didn't do systematic tests, but sharp enough to say it's in-focus, not OOF or anything.
