I am a little dissapointed that there is no response at all but anyway I bought it for $10 at an online auction, very happy with it. The camera sits nicely inside with a third more space for other stuffs. There's no divider and the front pocket hasn't any zip. Please advise on the care I should take storing the spare memory cards and batteries.
I'd love to learn from someone who are using or have used this sort of prosumer camera. Any individual who goes shooting on and of and have room for a newbie to tag along??? I am interested in subjects : Dance, Portraits and Nature. Anyone have a suitable secondhand speedlight for sale? Thank you evryone. ![]() Last edited by dogcom; 22nd January 2007 at 02:55 PM. |

Anyway, the bag is really your personal preference. Store your cards in their original plastic case, and the batteries in the terminal covers to prevent short circuit. I was using the Coolpix 8800 which is larger than 8700, but I used the Nikon leather case just big enough for the camera. Accesories and the camera and casing then go along in my backpack . Only when I bought my D80 did I start using a normal Lowepro EX180 bag, because of the extra lens, etc.As for 2nd hand speedlight, go to the Marketplace in the forum. U may post WTB (want to buy) there, or look for WTS (want to sell). Last edited by cpau99; 22nd January 2007 at 02:49 PM. |

Just repeating his answers. I guess there was no response because you mention that you have only the 8700 and some "basic stuff". Its up to you to decide because it is a very personnal thing . We won't know if you are going to buy more camera equiment or what your basic stuff is. Visit the lowepro web site to see if there are bag or pouch sutiable for your batteries and memory cards. Here As for learning maybe you can make some friends and join some of the outing found in the gathering and outing thread. Here For speedlights search the buy and sell thread. Here |

cpau99,
Thanks for your response. No 8700 isn't a compact point and shoot. If I am not mistaken is like your 8800. I bought secondhand everything and the batteries didn't come with terminal cover Because the inside haven't got any divider I am concern that anything else I store inside will be rocking and rolling against each other and the camera. I probably need to devise a divider myself with styrofoam? Any suggestion. Also is there any particular orientation I should place the camera. Right now I place it with the back of camera lying on the bottom of the bag. Is this ok? Much appreciate.

mega32,
Thank you for your response. If I am not wrong this camera doesn't allow any lens change (not a DSLR). Correct me if I am wrong. I am also wondering about a protective UV filter for my lens. What's would be a good lens cleaning kit to buy and the price? So all in all I don't think I will have like a lot of "other stuffs", especially not extra lenses. I've glance at the manual and one of the accessories is a telephoto adapter but I don't think I'll touch that knowing it's going to burn a hole in my pocket. I welcome any offer of a used unit though. Right now though my priority is to find time and practice more.

I don't think you can add a UV filter because the lens protrude out when the camera is turned on and protrude out even more zooming to telephoto. For lens cleaning kit try the lenspen. There is a thread discussing the price Here and the product's website is Here Practice and enjoy using the camera. ![]() Last edited by mega32; 22nd January 2007 at 04:26 PM. |

U are rite that u should not have the batteries, etc, rocking together with your camera. The other things might scratch your LCD or your lens (if the cover happen to come off!). As for the filter, check whether your lens has any threads on the side. If there are, then u can attach a filter. Just go to any camera shop and get a filter of the right size. My 8800 allows filters, so I had one with it. The filter protrudes together with the lens. In my humble opinion, u shouldn't use styrofoam, because the small foam particles might get into the camera, unless u have some kind of pocket made of soft cloth to contain the foam. |
