Pisa is the town with the eminent Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre Pendente). The tower is actually part of the Cathedral (Duomo), the Baptistry (Battistero) and the Cemetry, all situated at the Piazza dei Miracoli, which is considered as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.

u r really fortunate to take a whole month out for Italy.
I did a backpacking trip to Italy in Oct 2005. U covered lots more ground than me. Here's a rough sketch of my itinerary. Major places went: Milan - mostly near the Piazza del Duomo, the castle area. 2 days Forli - just near the train station, 1 hour Bertinoro Ravenna - half a day Bologna city - 1 day Napoli - half a day Sorrento - 3 days, use as base to visit Island of Capri on 1st day; Amalfi coast, Positano and Ravello on 2nd day Pompeii - 1 night Rome - 3 days, covered almost everywhere. Firenze - 2 days, both sides of Arno River, visit San Gimignano in 1 day Pisa - half a day Torino - 2 days Genova - 2 days, Porta Antico and old city area Three major places missed: Sardinia, Sicily (too far, and I might get killed!), and Venice (on the Northeast side). There are almost always free maps available at tourist information centres esp at bus/train interchange/tourist spots, so check out the signage "i". Check opening and closing times. Rome and Milan have more English-friendly folks. Naples have the best pizzas but have a reputation of high crime rates and a rather "poorer" populace. Florence/Firenze and San Gimignano have the best gelatos. If you are planning to stay in hostels, Milan, Genova and Venice may not have the most accessible or price-friendly hostels - you are better off staying in 1-2 star hotels or try a bed-and-breakfast. University towns like Bologna have cheap and good food. Eat takeaway or stand eating to save on costs. |

i hope i'm not biased in this occasion, but i find the pictures lacking in colors and contrast, and crippled by a lot of distracting details. the sky is not dramatic and lighting is bland due to the overcast (which in certain cases however can be good).
however, that said, i find that many people who post their european pictures tend to give the same color make-up. could it be the location that limits the photographer's choice in that sense? |
