Default Vacation in Italy – Vatican City

Due to the website that I've posted earlier has turned some forums into 'private' status, I think it's time for me to repost them here. I hope you enjoy my Italy trip as much as I do.

The view of St. Peter's Basilica (Basilica di San Pietro) from St. Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro).

The main dome of St. Peter's Basilica as seen from inside the basilica.

Morning sun rays shining through the windows above the main entrance of St. Peter's Basilica.

The dome of one of the chapels inside St. Peter's Basilica.

A wall painting by Raphael inside one of the Pope chambers.

Another wall painting by Raphael inside one of the Pope chambers, called "La Scoula d'Atene" or "The School of Athens."

Yet, another wall painting by Raphael inside one of the Pope chambers, depicting Constantine being led by angels to battle in a war.

The prominent spiral staircase at the exit of Vatican Museum (Musei Vaticani).

Early in the morning at St. Peter's Square.

The band members preparing for the marching-in of a special mass.

The two domes of St. Peter's Basilica.

The Swiss Guards' uniform is rumoured to be designed by Michelangelo. I did a b+w conversion and which one do you prefer?

One of the marble statues found inside St. Peter's Brasillica.

An aerial view of the Vatican Museum.

A restored wall painting of a lute player.

A floor mosaic painting at the Vatican Museum.

Happy viewing and shooting.

Nnice photos indeed, much better than the photos I took just last months, seem like we went through the same places, but miss out a lot (like on top of Vatican city shots) due to on a much rushed guided tour.

May I ask, did you went on a guided agency or free and easy tour?

Thanks zcf. I did this Italy round trip on backpacking for one month some time in May/June 2006. One really can't shoot much on a guided tour, which I never take for my Europe trips. In fact I spent two days just to cover Vatican City itself.

I do think so, learn it the hard way we spend less than 2-3 hours just to walk/rush through the vatican crowd

The winter short day light timing make it worse also, some city tour become night life tour And very surprise to find out it's so difficult to find public toilet in Italy.

Nice series... good stuffs! Thanks for sharing... I do agree that organised tours are definitely not the way to go if you wanna shoot europe. The nicer scenes are usually along the routes less-travelled... cheers

What great timing...dramatic light beaming onto the focal point that is the statue...I feel the tricky lighting was well handled here, but perhaps a tighter crop would bring more emphasis to the main elements: window, shaft of light, and illuminated statue.

But nevertheless, it's a shot I would have been proud of!: thumbsup:
