Post PMA 2003: Nikon AF-S VR 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IE-ED

Looks like Nikon is getting ready to release a new VR glass:

Nikon AF-S VR 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IE-ED

French PDF available HERE

A VR standard zoom, looks interesting.

and for those wanting the details in English, can be found here. Taken form DPReview.

longman, you can use G series lenses on the F4, but you are limted to P and S modes.

VR is a problem with the F4 cameras.

Time to upgrade.......
D100 and F100 calling your name.....

I hope this lens perform better than AFS 24-85, at wide angle. Also I hope the price is below 1k........

It's an unspectacular consumer lens, unless Nikon did a major change to the optical formula.

Any reasons behind your comment?
I can't expect pro lens at consumer lens price.....

This is based on the AF 24-120, which wasn't a spectacular lens to begin with. People I know whom has used it didn't like it. at f/5.6 maximum aperture, it's rather slow too.

i'm curious as to why they decided to develop a F75... isn't the F65 - F80 range well covered already?

Coz they didn't have time to develop a digital back for it, so might as well make it a film camera.

AF 24-120D doesn't have ED elements, this new VR lens has two ED elements. IMHO, Nikon made some improvement on the optics department for this new lens. With VR funtion f5.6 max aperture is not a big problem anymore as long as not shooting fast moving subject.

But we all know having ED elements does not mean it will be a great lens...
