photography-friendly places

else, can I start a thread on this?
basically, i'm looking to do portraiture in these places but do not wish to go head on with the security guards.
when i talk about 'photography', i'm not talking about a pointnshoot camera, fire and walk off.
i'm talking about what you guys usually do, meter scene with light meter, with strobes, with reflectors,diffusers and such.only difference is that i'm talking about a smaller crowd which will normally be 4 including model.


1)esplanade exterior, i think interior definitely big no no?
2)chimjes outside the church, and at the valet parking lots where u see exotic cars often
3)matilda house.is it fenced up?
4)supreme court.(exterior)
5)shophouses along club street, clarke/boat quay
6)hotel lobbys?( i think a big no no too?)

Request for permission. It will be either a straight YES or NO.

In fact, I've done a TFCD inside Paragon before... But most places will not entertain you to let you shoot. Hence, need to shoot fast fast and quickly run away before the security guards see you on the CCTV...

when i ask my secretary to call some places to ask for permission, the impression she gave me is that the person who pick up the phone has no friggin idea but only gave a straight SAFE answer of NO.
so, what gives?

is there any law or whatsoever governing the rights of photography that we/I can use?

i'm beginning to find sgp more n more photography unfriendly, and i really dont know why.
it's not like i'm going to use these pics for publications?for commercial purposes?or copy their architecture to build another ARts theatre like esplanade?any particular reason for that?

to make things simple, you buy up the property, than you can do whatever you like, and nobody will bother you.

what if i m wililng to pay?how much will it cost me?(only the cost of the entire string of lots for valet parking?)

I think for they restrict it to prevent disruption to the guests or customers. Imagine you have 2-3 photographers every weekend setting up strobes, reflectors in the lobby... not so nice right...

sometimes i really wonder where you guys go for portraiture.
to me, the venues' so limited.unlike when i was studying overseas, you can almost find a different location to shoot every weekend.

I think what catchlights was saying is that no matter what the government laws are, when you enter a private property, you have to play by their (the property owners') rules.

There are people in other countries who think that Singapore has very many locations for photography though. I think you are having the grass-is-greener-on-the-other-side syndrome.

Yes, while there is no law (as far as I know) that restricts anyone from taking pictures in the public (that includes anyone can just take pic of anyone on the street), for private properties, you will have to seek for permission. Otherwise there will be not much of difference from trespassing...

if it's just a warning and a fine, i'm willing to take the risk.

and anyone knows where to rent a black and white house(if you know what i'm talking about) for shoot?i've checked out the agents that rents to expats and they told me they dont do short term.only long term of 1year and above.

-suntec fountain assuming you dont walk the path but to the water flowing areas(circumference?)
-singapore arts museum or national museum?
-exterior of forbidden city (clarke quay)?
- ACM empress place?

no i'm not.i love sgp.but i hate the venues and laws governing photography.
dont forget they think sgp has many locations because they are tourists and prob carry pns? sgp services tends to be bias-slant toward tourists dont you think?
