Thread: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8

  1. #1

    Default Canon EF 50mm f/1.8

What is the difference between the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and a kit lens from Canon EOS 300D?
Better parts? Less moving parts? Better built? ??? Will it be better then the kit lens?

just buy .. definitely better than any kit lens.

sharper, better resolution, better colours, low light shooting

The 50mm f1.8 is a prime lens, meaning it cannot zoom.
I wouldn't say it's better built, but it is much sharper and can shoot better in low light.
Better read up a bit more first before moving on my friend... This is a good place to start. It's where I started

    Happy learning!

The 50mm F1.8 prime len is one of the most value for $$ lens.. in my opinions.. It costs about $130 and with f1.8, it produces decent pictures at night or low light condition... Don't quote me thou, I just bought it and haven't got a chance to try out this baby yet.

Great portrait lens, sharp (whether in low or high light conditions), good value for money

f1.8 is something to drool about

you can borrow one, shoot indoors, compare pics taken by your kit lens, you'll appreciate the difference

Currently i'm using this lens with close-up filters for a cheap alternative to macro. Results are pretty gd though.

Shooting with prime lenses such as the 50mm f/1.8 is addictive because of its low light capabilities and all round sharpness. Hard to switch back to kit lens once you've tried a prime.

This lens is definitely a great buy! At only $100+, it's a steal!

everyone should buy this lens, really.

but oddly too, most of us would grow out of this lens as quick as it gets. 50mm is not long enough, not wide enough. it's more of a lens to learn how to use super wide aperture...

so it ends up, this lens usually goes into my bag (it's small and light enough), but dont get used alot. =)
