Belated post because internet was very slow recently after the Taiwan Earthquakes damaged some underwater telecommunication cables.

Thanks for taking the trouble to leave a kind comment.
Pardon the lack of resolution for the concert pictures. I was shooting from very far away and had to zoom in a lot to shoot what I want to show and fill the frame. Given the small sensor on a prosumer camera, relatively short actual focal length (max. 71.2mm = 280mm on 35mm format equivalent) and a high ISO (to achieve a fast enough shutter speed to freeze people motion), there weren't great details captured. Moreover, I should have used 1/125 shutter speed instead of 1/60 for some of the concert pictures. Except for the Christmas tree lights at Raffles City (which I wanted a dark background using a small aperture and low ISO 100) and the street lights decorations at Orchard Rd, the rest were all shot handheld by ensuring that at least the appropriate shutter speed was used vis-a-vis the focal length. |

Nice collection..
All handheld? From my eyes.. quite low level of noise was observed. U use some noise removal software or its the 5700? |

As the actual focal lengths used in prosumer cameras are quite short, getting shutter speed above 1/actual focal length isn't very difficult. When I don't zoom at all, focal length is only 8.9mm and I use 1/15. When I zoom a little, I used 1/30. Actually, I sometimes shoot at 1/8 if not zoomed because the light condition is so poor that the aperture cannot open any bigger and 1/8 is really the fastest which can get a sufficient exposure. Depth of Field rendered by different apertures isn't much of an issue in such situations because there isn't going to be much difference at such short focal lengths. If I'm concerend about DOF (especially I'm trying to shoot close-up with a shallow DOF), then I would use max. focal length (71.2mm), max. aperture for the desired shallow DOF and a tripod. I noise level is less noticeable because the pictures have been severely resized down from 5 MP to 600x400. I think I used noise ninja in pic #1-4. For the concert pictures 5-10, I didn't reduce noise for most (if not all ....... can't remember) because the details are already quite poor due to the far shooting distance and high ISO, and any further noise reduction would reduce the details even more. The noise level is actually quite severe if you look closer. For those shot at ISO 100 (picture 11 and 12), I didn't reduce noise. For the rest of the pictures which were shot at ISO 200, I can't remember specifically whether I've applied noise ninja... probably yes. Last edited by Clockunder; 5th January 2007 at 12:49 AM. |
