Default Pekeliling Flat: Awaiting an End

it actually started before azrul's enlightenment on the Bok House issue, a prime landmark in kl (m'sia) that lasted for ages was destructed for the name of developement. at that time, i was too lacking in desire and too lazy to go and shoot anything that doesn't stimulate an adrenaline rush. the desire to shoot the Pekeliling Flats is there, nonetheless, the execution, is nowhere to be seen.

what really sparked me was a photo of the Pekeliling which i conviniently accused as 'something foreign' because anything local, would not be half as scrumptious. up until azrul brought up the whole Bok case and told me it was 'the foreign photo' is actually taken at the Pekeliling Flats. since photography is all about a moment, and the Pekeliling Flats are only going to be here for another moment before morphing into a pile of worthless debris.

my rendition of the shot that azrul took of the famous public high rise housing estate.

As the first two blocks were already demolished, i forced myself to get some snapshots before i lost it forever, so on christmas, i braved myself to go there alone (because the friend that was suppose to go couldn't make it). Not that i have problem with loneliness but i'd heard notorious feedback upon my sound desire to visit the neighbourhood.

Upon entering the neighbourhood, i know that it's not the best idea to visit alone. It looked pretty much like the dodgy end the city and it certainly did took me a while to find the entrance to the apartment plaza. (in that case, i accidentally went into the garbage dump thinking it's the door)

the mailbox of the residence upon the entrance flats.

Once i was in, i took a quick reci about to analyse the risk of being of being mugged by a junkie (like any other photographer, i most certainly don't enjoy being jacked). it looked safe enough at that time being so i took the quick brought myself together and took a couple of quick shots.

staircase to the flat units. i don't think there is a lift and if it does, it was elusive.

After i took these shots, i left the place and some kids insisted that i took a photo of them because i have a camera.

them kids.

I was fortunate enough to talk to a resident which operates a sundry shop there and i was told that current residents are moving out in abundance from the Pekeliling Flats because it will be destructed soon and also because drug dealers are taking full advantage by moving into the abandoned flat lots to nest drug addicts. Day after day, the flats are turning into a junkie hive due to poor evacuation planning from the developer.

the resident, which i managed to talk to, warned me to be extra careful if i were to go back to take more photos.

it is such a waste that a landmark that once sheltered so many has to come down to it's current state.
