Hi Pentaxians,
Looking forward to buy either a Sigma or Tamron 70-300mm. Which is more suitable for K10D? Image quality and compatibility. Please advise.

Sigma is rather close to it thou. However it seems like the Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro isn't in stock at the momment. The only issue might be some purple fringing compared to the Pentax DA 50-200.

Well..... too accustomed to SR. The half size macro function will help the fact tat i dun hav a macro lens. Dun think i am rich enough to get an expensive lens hehe. Tks lsl03, asked them b4 but no stock at tat time. Only looking to add tis lens, FA50 F1.4 and perhaps DA21 at this time.

I did some research comparing the 18-200 for both the sigma and tamron before gong for the sigma. generally, the tamron has better built quality while the sigma was optically better. I chose performance to vanity...heh heh Wondering if this appiies to the 70-300 as well?
I had the sigma 70-300 APO previously and its a good performer. But if you can really get the tamron at $245, I'll conveniently ignore that the sigma is an APO and go for the tamron as that's a pretty good deal! You can't even buy a second hand sigma 70-300 at that price, i think. ![]() |

APO = α - φ - ω (Alpha Phi Omega) ?
Just kidding APO is a term (mostly used by Sigma) which means the use of a special low-dispersion (SLD) glass and is designed to minimize color aberration. Detailed info can be found here:http://www.sigmaphoto.com/popup.asp |

The "APO" abbreviated term comes from the full term "apochromatic"... a design superior to "achromatic" (without chromatic abberation)... achieved through the use of special "low dispersion" lens element. The term is not only used by Sigma, but also used by telescope/microscope manufacturers for their high-end products that utilise the same optics technology.

Neither. Wait for the Pentax lens. You won't regret the wait.

The sigma site is unclear with regards to this info: What's the maximum (wide open) aperture of the 70-300 APO DG?
