Default Fourthird Photo Developing

Greetings to all~

pardon me, I just wanna ask how do you guys usually develope the photos since it's in
the fourthird format, do you crop the photos into 4R size before sending it to the lab or
just print it at the fourthird format? what would the fourthird print size be called at the lab?

I personally would crop it to 4inch X 6inch before sending in for printing as I always edit my photos before printing. If you did not crop, I guess its up to the photo lap to do it for you. Anyway, all PNS came in 4/3 format...

Don't know if there is such a print size...

I do post processing on my photos too.

I am just wondering if the photos are printed in the fourthird format,
what's that print size called?
and are there albums out there that fits the fourthird print sizes instead
of the 4R sizes?

For 4R Digial Size, the long side(length) is the same as 4R and the short side(width) is longer. It is in 4:3 ratio.

4R = 6"X4"
4R Digital size = 6"X4.5"

Cheers..

Is there such size? 4.5"? x 6"

What I have printed was:

4R = 4" x 6"
4R digital size = 4" x 5.3"

You can also ask to print on 4R, with a white strip at the side.

all these sizes depends on the print shop too. Different shops may accept different sizes. 6"X4.5" size is also called 4R JUMBO size at the place i working at. Digital 4R is the demagnification of the image so the whole image fits into a 4R sized paper properly with white borders at its side. The papers come in reels and commonly people whole print 4R uses 6" paper and thus 6"X4.5" would be a more convinient way of printing than 4" x 5.3" which some shops do not stock 4" paper.

some shop refer 6"x4.5" as "Super 4R"
just note you need to buy different album for 6"x4.5" which is not very common

This is how I do it. In ps, using the rectangular marquee, select "fixed aspect ratio" in the pull down. Type in "4" and "6" in the width and height box (or vice versa if you want a horizontal crop). The marquee will be restricted in the proportion of 4:6. Crop your pics this way and send out to print. This works for 4R or S8R (8 by 12 inch) or 16 by 32 print or any print in the 4:6 ratio.

Similarly if you want other size prints, such as 8 by 10 inch print, just type "8" and "10" in the width and height then crop.

Of course, before taking a picture you need to leave some allowance. Top and bottom for a horizontal frame, or left and right for a vertical frame.

Some Olympus cameras let you set the 4:6 ratio in the camera, so you don't have to waste your time cropping every single pic. Hope this helps
