Go to MS Colour at Ang Mo Kio. It is one of the more popular shops with CS members.

I think I'll pay a visit to the Sony Gallery first.

I have a question. If I ask them to recommend me a beginner's DSLR camera, will they laugh at me?

anyway back to topic, i guess you mean basic dSLR with basic function, some choice from each vendor are
    Canon 350D or 400D
    Nikon D40 or D50
    Pentax K100D
    Olympus E330 and E500
Im not sure how you define good look, but all dSLR looks good to me.

oopz, guess i stated too many.
once u get the 400D, you'll feel that the 30D looks better, more solid, and then the 5D looks cool without the pop up flash, then the smooth curves of the 1-series begin to look favourable too!
    Canon 300D, 30D, 5D. 17-40 f4 L, 24-105 f4 L, 70-200 f2.8 L IS

Thanks for your opinion djork. I'll heed that and decide after making the comparison.

I just payed a visit to Sony Gallery at Junction 8 today. They only got Sony A100 on display. I asked if this is the only one on display since I don't see it around and want to confirm it. They said yes. However, I foolishly didn't ask them if they have the Canon 400D or 30D there. But then again, it all make sense. It's a Sony Gallery!

Any Camera shop nearby Bishan other than the one at Ang Mo Kio?

Ok. I will make my way down if I have nothing to do today.

Which part of AMK? And, any idea what is the name of the shop?

i'm pretty much new. the budget for the camera would be about 3K(give or take).
the ability to control the quality of my pictures is quite the "stifling" factor for me. and the focus, off-focus kinda thing.
area of photography- the main subject i want for me should be people. closeups, gigs and maybe a little of scenery. will delve into architecture, just not yet.
i do see myself down the line of photography. may wanna turn it into a career or some sort.then again, for now, it's a hobby i'm dying for. but as foretold by my uncles and friends it's gonna take a toll on my cashflow(i'm a student!).
i've learned about teeny weeny bits of photography in school.(Mass Comm) rule of thirds, **** like that.
some PnS olympus camera. i've tried using my friend's nikon D70s and i love the weight of it.

that's about it. what should i get folks??

maybe i should tell you guys my inspiration to take up photography, awe-inspiring pictures like the piercing stare of an Iraqi(not too sure of the nationality tho') girl which made it to one of the Cover Page of Nat Geo. emotion-evoking pictures like these are what i look to capture.
    Yo Mate,

I was in the same situation as you are a few months back. Took my friend's advice, and I'm now a satisfied owner of the D80 (still using the kit)... Not that my friend's a Nikon user. He told me to go to any shop that stacks a wide range of brands & models, and to go Hold, and FEEL the Cam - that's how I settled in on the Nikon.

So I guess, at the end of the day, FEELING is most important. Cos if dun have a good feel of the cam you intend to buy, even the Best lens will not make up for that shortfall of not having a good feel.

Not trying to put bargaincity down, but I find their prices are not much of a bargain. I can't vouch for the service though, as I have not been there before.
