Default Any ways to discharge canon batts?

I want to precharge my batts for an oversea trip but the batts are still strong, is there any way to discharge it and charge it again? I lazy to turn on flash and shoot blindly just to discharge

What batteries are you talking about? BP511? External charger?

Its Lithium batteries right? They have no memory effect, why do you need to discharge? Just put it in the original charger to top-up can already wad.. if you are that particular.

That's what I have been doing with my 4 original Canon BP-511A & BP-511. Somehow these original hold their charge longer, and last longer when compared to my Eastgear ones overtime. So, now I only use originals. I use until 1 bar or no bar, and sometimes until they cannot shoot any more then I change batteries.

I think for lithium batteries it's better not to fully discharge them. Check out this website. A lot of good information on batteries and how to prolong their life.

Canon actually recommends discharging every once in a while. Think I read something to that effect in the manual.

Very helpful battery life information frenchbean, thanks.

Though I think certain battery chargers can discharge their own batteries when the power is off but the plug left into the socket if theres a earth connection.

Quote:
Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
Quoting from the website, this might be the reason why Canon recommends discharging once in a while?

canon's 1-series brick charger can discharge the NP-E3 batts...but that's Ni-MH..different from the 400D batt
