Hi all,
Being a a film user I was wondering if anyone knows whether those new lenses that have been designed for digital cameras are suitable for use with film bodies. Most new lenses (including those from third party makers) have been marketing these new "digital lenses" to the growing market of digital users. This is understandable, but by re-designing new lenses for the digital SLRs, are they still suitable for use with film SLRs? |

The answer should be "incompatible" even though that you can still mount some of the "digital lenses" onto your film SLR.
Canon EF-S lenses (so called digital lenses) cannot be mounted onto film SLR. Nikon DX lenses (so called digital lenses) can be mounted onto their film SLRs but exhibit vignetting. E.g. you can mount the AF-S DX 12-24mm f4 lens onto Nikon film cameras but can only used from 18-20mm onwards. |

However, the thread starter is asking about whether digital lenses can be used on film SLR specifically, so I did not address other issues, etc. Nevertheless, the additional information from you is also useful to the thread starter. ![]() |
