Did not bargain much as stocks are quite limited. Not sure if this is a good deal but no extra charge for credit card payment.
Price seems alright, given that the 50-200 is usually ~350.

Well, the Pentax kit lenses don't have the diffraction problem of the newer canon 18-55, and they're much better built, all with metal mounts and dedicated decent focus ring.

They're not fantastic though - they -are- still kit lenses. To balance that, note that the 50-200 has a great reputation (on dpreview forums).

I personally decided to get a sigma 70-300 for the tele end.

The pentax kit lens 18-55 will perform better than the canon one. And is a good choice for wide angle shot.

I think to got 16-45 f4 currently is not a wise decision, waiting for the 16-50 f2.8 should be better.

Welcome to the Pentax family Newbie or not, your testing shots look good. Now you need to get out and keep shooting

    Cheers and happy shooting.

    Thanks! Will do!

fengwei, I trust you are enjoying your camera too?

    EDIT: [Some Observations]
The K10D seems to prefer to underexpose while taking scenes under direct sunlight. The viewfinder's indicators are also quite dim in the sun, but still readable. Then again, the grip is hugely comfortable, and the Operating System of the K10D is responsive and detailed. Shake reduction does come in handy.

    [Some Questions]
Under what situations does the lenshood fufill its purpose?

You can check out this website http://www.pbase.com/cameras/pentax/...50-200_4-56_ed for some sample shots with the lens. I'm only a novice but it looks pretty decent and cost effective lens for a beginner.

I observe that all the shots taken above are "slightly" under-exposed.

I read that all the cameras will by default under-expose to prevent highlights burnout.

So, maybe, itz wise to let in more light by 1/3 stop...

Yes, I do notice that with my shots.
As you suggested, +1/3 stop should be good for out of camera pics.

I encountered the same scenario too in the rest of the test pictures (not posted here) that I took

    Hi, Fengwei,

It seems that you took these two pictures at NUS, right? I used to walk on that road for several years...

BTW: Got the kit from Alan Photo Funan this afternoon @ 1517 with one HOYA UV filter and one screen protector. Well build camera! I might ask my friends to buy a 43LE from US because it is just US$380, after rebate. Is it a good deal? But the people in Alan Photo seems not very keen on this camera, especialy questioning pentax's focusing...

    Two questiones:
    1. As people discovered before, the pitures it takes seem a bit dark.
    2. the white balance under AUTO seems not very accurate.

    Still trying the camera...
