Can someone tell me how dark is EV-1 & EV-2 in layman's term???
It seems that the K10D loses out in autofocus if compared against Nikon D80 in low-light condition. ![]()

http://www.earthboundlight.com/photo...tops-here.html Probably what you should do is go and handle the 2 cameras at the same time. Which feels better to you? That's probably going to be the most important factor. I'm assuming that price difference is not a consideration here seeing that you've been asking about these 2 cameras for quite a bit already. As for D80 performing better in low light, you'll have to ask yourself how much low light photography you are really doing? Unless you have a specific interest in doing mostly low light shooting, I would assume that like many, you are going to shoot in all lighting condition. That being the case, I don't think any low light advantage that the D80 has is going to be of major benefit to you. Bear in mind also that the K10D is said to focus faster that the D80 in normal lighting conditions. So end of the day, comes back to the first question -- which feels better in your hands? Just my 1.5 cents. Cheers. |

I shoot a lot of photos for my church, so mostly in the auditorium and rooms. So AF in lowlight conditions is very important to me. Hmmm, i think my church auditorium is about EV 7 using my Canon G5 to meter. I do like the 18-135 kit lens of the D80 though... Pentax is currently weak in their zoom lenses... sigh Decisions, decisions...

http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3231...ics-page3.html K10D AF speed: http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3512...ntax-k10d.html So down to EV 6, the K10D (0.54s) is actually faster than the D80 (0.57s). On specs, the K10D seems to suit your usage. Some more discussion on their relative AF speeds: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...1232431&page=3 Seeing that your heart is on the D80, did I just make your decision more difficult? ![]() Last edited by watchthewaves; 14th December 2006 at 12:22 PM. |

Just a joke, btw, either the D80 or the K10d would suit you fine. Just go to where your heart is ........................... |

I really like to commend the Pentax forum for being open and tolerant of users discussing products of other brands. In other forums, anyone "threatening" to buy a rival brand in the event that a product does not live up to his/her expectations would long been chastised by the fanboys...

Remember that up to this point, Pentax does NOT have a single USM/AFS lens. It therefore only makes sense to compare AF speed in Feb/Mar next year when they launch their ultrasonic lenses. I bet the D80 AF speed was tested with the kit 18-135 lens which has AFS.
