I'm currently using 430EX. I know Canon don't have CLS like Nikon does but I would like to know how to do something like that beside using Speedlite Transmitter which costs quite a lot and having another master flash like 550EX and 580EX. Any cheaper devices? Thanks.

What about optical slave eyes? Just remember to get those that ignore the Canon E-TTL pre-flash.

TCW..slave triggers..~$45..not as accurate as IR & radio triggers..have to fire off in manual mode, as the pre-flash may cause misfiring..

Those slave triggers dont work with 580EX and 430EX. The radio transmitters costs a bomb. I would recommend the Canon ST-E2. It costs about $210. Hope that helps.

I dont think there are other 'cheaper' alternatives for Canon flash system. I tried a various numbers of triggers and all of them dont work in E-TTL except for the ST-E2. However, if you do find a more cost effective solution, do keep us informed. Thanks!

Hi! May I know where you get the quote of around $210? If I remember correctly, I was quoted $350. So didn't buy... Thanks!

hi,
I read about this thread a few weeks ago, and was thinking of posting my finding how to use Canon 350D with external flash. I finally got time to take some photos of my gears, and write a blog page on it. I have 2 existing flash, and camera tripod. I spent another S$111, to get extra hot shoe adaptor (which will get rid of the pre-flash so that any flash can be mounted on the 350D in manual/auto flash mode). This is my simple write-up about the equipment list and some sample photos taken using it. http://bjoyus.blogspot.com/ If anyone of you can let me know where can I get the item (4) Slave Adaptor, please let me know as I cannot find either the analog or digital one. regards, BJoy.Us |

hi,
I was using these 2 flashes: 1) Sunpak auto 36FD Thyristor - has a function to allow half, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 output. It's spoilt as it always output full power regardless of the setting. 2) Metz 32MZ-3 - flash that's working fine This is a simple setup that you can use to play with multiple flashes, without spending on expensive equipment. However, you need to spend more time trial and error to get the right expore setting. Also, now, I added Canon 580EX. When 580EX is used in manual mode, there is no pre-flash, hence the off-camera 2nd flash (i.e Metz 32MX-3) can still be use on an umbrella. At the moment, the functionality of 580EX is under-utilized as I only use it as manual flash. I am planning to get 430EX as 2nd or 3rd flash to play with. bjoy.us |

hi,
This is the original posting of using simple external flash. http://bjoyus.blogspot.com/2007/01/s...equipment.html I have added a few posting on how to use hand-phone to trigger external flash to create better lighted photos. |
