Hi people,
I am helping my Dojo to do some syllabus compilation. Which means I am going to do a series of 4-5 shots illustrating a certain technique. For those who are not familiar with the actions on Judo, you can checkout our site (Not updated) (http://www.singaporejudo.org.sg). We mostly do fast moving throws thus I am concern about the lens and settings I should use. Currently looking aound for gears... Any expert wana share your views? Anyways let me share some shots I took a few months back …. Cheers, Tom ![]() |

If you're working for your dojo, try to see if you can get floodlights to bounce off the ceilings or add some sort of light if you want to do existing-light work. If not, can a diffused flash be used?
Unless you have amazingly fast (and more astoundingly expensive) lenses, the main problem is always freezing motion in low-light. |

Look for a fast lens. A f/1.8 lens would do wonders. But not the 200/1.8 if you're using Canon - it's discontinued, and not supported by Canon worldwide.

with flash, i think a f/2 lens would do. it'll gonna cost you a bomb though.
the best if you could get a 85mm f/1.4. it should be enough to cover mostly anything. i'm just a little worried about the shallow dof. the EXIF data in your photo is not avail, so i can't say much. but if i can. i'll shoot two stops lower with raw and go back to bring it back up again. so with f/1.4 + 2 stops to play with, i'd say you'll be alright, even without a fill in flash. |

is the first pic taken at the Portsdown dojo? I thought there are no more lessons there? Anyway, do you have any more pics to share? Would love to see them all! |

WA-SEH!
Your new dojo got lots of potential to do portraits manz! Give it a whirl with that stallone look-a-like instructor - heavy side-lighting next to one window, close the doors at the back to get a darker BG and you got a power moodz shot! When the other guys see that shot, they will all want you to do theirs then you can start charging a fee! LOL! |
