I think the olympus E330 is more worth it. Only AFS and HSM lens can be used on the nikon D40

What does this means? Not all Nikon lens can be used? The commonly budled kit lens of the D50 & D70 cannot be used on D40?

D40 don't have a AF screw coupling because D40 body don't have motor for AF. The AF only can be achieve if the lens(es) itself have motor inside like Nikkor AF-S or USM motor lenses.

Since kit lens of D50 and D70 is AF-S lenses, it can do AF with D40. Lens like 50mm f/1.8 AF-D can not do AF with D40.

I believe e330 can do AutoFocus since the lenses have motor inside. Since there is no AF screw coupling on e330 (like D40). So e330 and D40 actually fall into the same category, no AF motor inside body. If you buy D40 and only buy AF-S lenses, you are doing the same like buying e330 and buy eSystem lenses.

I don't know how much e330 now, but D40 kit IIRC is below $1000.
