My old trusty Canon G2 has focusing problem recently, the focusing motor might have died. Does Canon still can repair it if I send it in to Canon Service Centre for repair?
I have email this enquiry to Canon but no reply from them yet. So want to hear some user experience here first. Thanks. |

maybe so expensive, you'd rather get a new one.

Hmmm... i reckon as use G2 may only be about $200 to $220 used. probably not a good idea to repair it if the repair cost over $100.

IIRC canon has a policy of keeping parts for at least 10 years however i think its time for a camera upgrade? The newer cameras work much better than the G2 which i found abit slow

Canon does service your camera however if it is not under warranty or on the list of defective product, there will be a charge of roughly $50-$500 depending on the problems. I would advise you to get a new one if the cost is more than $100. Cheers! ![]() |

Recently I just repair my G2 at Canon Service Center, to replace the CF door. They told me the use 2nd hand spare part, maybe taken from a died G2, and only cost me SGD 6.-.
So, there should be no problem repairing old camera, out of warranty, at Canon Sgp. If they can't find new spare part, they will try to get used one, but working spare part. Don't worry, they are honest enough to tell you about it. I plan to sell my G2, as I already have G7. If you interested, you can PM me, or SMS me (96701610) your offer ![]() http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=243800 Last edited by bpribadi; 14th December 2006 at 02:00 PM. |

I just have time to make a trip to Canon today. They quoted me a hefty $280 to fix the out of focus problem. So the repair is definately out of the way.
However, they also offer me a trade in for the faulty G2. 400D is quoted $1213 without kit len, good offer or not? The whole range of Canon cameras are offered at trade in price, but the lower end model get lower trade in value and so on. I am thinking of trade it in for a Ixus or 400D. Anyone here took up the trade in offer from Canon before? Thanks for all the helpful tips above. |

New 400d is said to be selling now at around $1300. You will have to do the math yrself to see if it is worth or not.

BTW, any thread here keep track of Canon cameras street price like the one you posted? I can only see there's one for Canon lenses and another one for Canon accessories. I am interested to know the Ixus prices. ![]() |

I say Ixus.
If you get a 400D, then you will start investing in lenses, then more lenses, then flash, drybox, accessories, bags, tripods. The list never ends bro. |
