That's the original L2A1. The L2A4 started production in late 1985 and ended roughly in 1992. It's a relatively new tank for SG standards.

Er... Don't know if we are still friends with "Friend Up North"...

Singapore is alway talking about deterrent policy... That is why I find it very surprising that we did not counter the threat by MLRS...

Imagine one town like woodlands ganna taken out by a salvo from a platoon of MLRS... The military and politcial fall out would be huge even if we manage to counter attack and destroy their MLRS...

    Maybe we should get SCUDs...

FYI, it's the F-15SG and it's in service in USAF as the F-15E Strike Eagle aka Mud Hen. No doubt the airframe is from the 1970s but the F-15E is designed to be in-service till 2030.

However, Malaysia have other neighbours too, and in those other areas of ops, MLRS may be useful.
Personally I would rather plaster the runway AND the kampong before we get plastered...

Especially for Singapore where everything is so compact here...

oh yes its now the SG instead of T huh?

anyway the DESIGN of the airframe is 70s, the airframe themselves are new.

Considering that it entered service in 1999 and up till now, the entire fleet hasn't achieved IOC. Kinda of worrying for a small 12 frame fleet.

From what I understand F-15SG was not the 1st choice.

We buy it after we could not get assurance of timely delivery of the Euro Typhoon to Singapore... We were left with the choice of F-15 and the french plane (can't remember the name)...

No prize for which one we would buy now...

I don't think the problem lies with the Rooivalk itself, you know.

Compare to the Tempest/Centurions we have... L2A4 is the next generation... Anyway we don't really need advance MBTs...

now the PSB2 bridge would be really interesting for us on the Leopard 2 chassis, particularly we are already using their MLC30 bridge on the Bionix launcher.

there are quite a few, depending on the flavour you are looking for. I don't frequent them really, a lot of times the discussion degenerates into name calling and insults if anyone knows of one that does degenerate into name calling and insults, let me know!

The combination of Israeli and U.S. equipment, as already seen on the RSAF’s F-16s, was a powerful factor in the selection of the F-15SG.

Don't worry too much lah. Long before they deploy their heavy equipment southwards, our recce people oredi know and send the reaction force up to block them.
SCUD old oredi leh, anyway SG won't buy Soviet or China made stuff one.
Patriot fits more with our defensive style.

I agree and had predicted picking F-15 on that basis. We always look for a platform that can be exploited and people will not sell you everything you need. Just look at the brouhaha over the AAMs. At least in electronics we can do a lot of things on our own.
