I wonder how well the Leopard 2A4 will do in our warm tropical climate. Most of the other export customers are from Europe. I know there are "desertised" versions of the M1A2, Merkava 2/3/4 (naturally) and Challenger 2.

The turret's front is quite sloped. Well maybe not the sides though.
Merkava is special because they put the engine in the front of the tank to protect the crew... However they are no longer fighting a war... Most damage is caused by IED or attack at it's side...

Don't think Singapore leopards would be called to hold an hostile area...

LOL...Leopard would definitely perform very well... It is our tankies we should be worrying for if they dun air conditionised the tank...

IIRC, the 2A4's are supposed to be protected against chemical and bio warfare agents, so I would think that in order to do that, the tank's interior would have to be sealed and climate controlled.

Being a Tankie might be the next hottest thing after an Apache pilot.

I'm more worried about the engine than the tankies inside
I've seen some continental cars overheated during traffic jam here.

hmmm.. somehow I don't think that's going to be a problem.

The most common reason why cars overheat is when they are not moving, the aircon is turned on at full blast.

what's the problem, the current Tempest and both the CEV/AVLB are also not air conditioned.

Being a tankie in Singapore means you are stuck in a furnace during training!

No kidding here, with Singapore's hot climate, plus the hot running engine, plus the metal hull of the tank, plus the limited moving space of the interior, plus the closed hatch & lack of fresh air, you can imagine the drivers of tanks or M113 are sweating like hell here in Singapore!

Our Bionix carry many troopers but they are not air-conditioned, so there is no chemical defence at all. Same for the new tanks which Singapore is buying. I don't think the government has any plan in the future to air-condition our armour vehicles; they want to save money.

Sorry hor, bad for all tankees! With the global warming, hence the rising temperature, I pray for our tankees.

Can our future NSF take the heat (most live in the comfort of air-con environment)?

Same problem as Tempest and all the armour we have currently loh... Super hot enviroment, sure to affect the tankies performance...

Hoping that with the new tank, they would start thinking of air-conditionising the armour we have...

You will know if you are one of those drivers.

Many drivers cannot tahan the hot interior of the tanks! Some even became sick after driving for a few minutes under the hot sun. They felt dizzy, vomiting, headache, perspiring a lot (you need 2 big bottle of water inside the vehicle to replenish the body's loss of fluid through rapid perspiring), faster heart-beat (body heat risen could cause faster heart-beat), strain neck (you will be sitting in an uncomfortable position and peeping through the periscope while driving the tank), and also, the wearing of the helmet aggravates headache more.

Can you imagine the hot metal hull of the tank under the hot sun? The hot running engine also contribute substantially to the heat in the vehicle.

You would feel better if you treat the whole experience as a free sauna!

are you fantasising or hallucinating? or the young people these days so unfit (frankly I don't think so). I have never seen any driver like that. You think driving in Singapore is hot, try driving in Shoalwater. Nobody fall sick leh. Although the early SM-1 turbo did overheat and died lah.

Not at all. I saw some of them falling sick driving on land. Driving in sea is better!
