Default Help on buying flash

Hi guys,

I am using D50 and suddenly my flash is not working. I am currently in Peru, Lima and there is no way i can get it repaired. So my only option is to buy an external flash.

Need help on which one to get because it is very expensive for such items in Peru.

SB-80DX - 260 USD.
SB-600 - 400 USD.

Please help. I need to take the fireworks for the coming christmas.

How about ordering online and getting it delivered to you? Maybe by some chance it will end up cheaper..?

Nope, you don't need a flash to do that.

You only need a flash if you have a subject, such as a person, that you need to light up at night. For shots of fireworks and lights along the coast lines you'll be doing long exposure shots, so what you'll need is a good tripod and remote release. If you can't find a remote release, make use if your camera's timer to avoid camera shake.

BTW, Sb-80DX will not work in the ittl mode in d50. Suggest you to get a SB-800 if you want to get a flash gun.

Yeah.. get a tripod instead.

You'd need long exposures for the fireworks. Not a flash...

Based on SB-600 USD400, the SB-800 could be USD800 there .
