    No, it is not SIA's own ruling. Other airlines also enforce this policy too.

    a) When the seat is reclined, the person sitting behind you would have difficulty getting up as the backrest of the front-seat would 'eat' into the person behind's space.

    b) It's easier to get up from an upright position than from a reclining position.

    c) Easier to take a 'brace' position.
