Default ERROR 99 on 20D

I've recently encountered the well known ERR99 twice with my 20D. It recovered after I took out and reinserted the batt. Some said it's the lens, some blamed it on CF card and some the 3rd party batt. Any clue or solution to this problem? Does it help sending it to Canon for servicing? Thanks in advance!

i had this problem on my 350D when using focal length 80mm onwards on my 28-90mm.
and a aperture lost as in it will appear 00 when taking photos at 28-30mm.

therefore, i think its my bloody lens that is at fault cause i dont have any problems with other lens.

but still, thats a funny problem im facing.

I've had this error when using a Sigma lens. Chances are it's the lens.

Twice on a different day but with the same Tamron 17-35mm lens and battery grip.

Error 99 refers to general electrical (or contact) shorts. This could range from a weak set of batteries in your speedlite, to an improperly mounted lens (or one with poor contacts).

If re-mounting the lens clears the error momentarily, where it recurs on the same lens, then it is likely the lens.

In my experience, most of the error 99 problems result from batteries with weak charges.

Weak batts in flash??? Hrmm... my Sanyo batts sucks big time. Could that be it?

But it's just strange that the camera works again after I reinserted my camera batt. So should I concluded that it's the camera batt and not the lens?

Happened to me twice. Remount the lens and take out the battery and reload it.

It happened to me during flash photography and when I tried to view my photos on the LCD after a shot is taken. Errorr 99 came out Did the drill and problem solved....

It happened when I was using original batt but with grip.

Seems like no one knows exactly what went wrong. Does anyone know what Canon has to say about this?

it seem quite many things which may trigger the prob.

I've encountered this quite a few times with diff lenses (kit lens, tamron, sigma) on 300D and 30D. Everytime I just unmount the lens and put it back... seems to have solved the problem
Read somewhere in the web that it's caused by the contact between the lens and the body
