which shop pls?

looking to buy original ones.

finally decided not to take the chance and buy 3rd party batteries for now, since there's a lack of reviews.

Since the price difference is only $15, you might as well get the original.

i got 2 pcs @ $45 each during the sitex promo. works fine after 1 recharge for each one.
fyi, i've been using 3rd party batteries for all my other P&S cameras.

unless you are less receptive to risk and if spending the extra $40 or so can bring you some piece of mind, then the original ones are "better". either way, there no right or wrong about using eastgear.

if i'm not wrong, MS Color is also selling the same 3rd party ones.

I still prefer EG as it come with 6 months warranty.
Nikon orignial 'no warranty' at all.
Had a bought outside a EN-EL3a & it went faulty after 3 months last time and NSC
refuse to replace it as the warranty does not cover battery.
I got to almost 'Bang Table' then the tech agreed to test the battery for 7 days
then gotten a replacement.

So it depend on yourself..

for the moment, no any ill-effects that i've experienced.
battery info level works normal.
charging time almost the same.
battery roughly the same.

the only thing i notice on the eastgear one is it's rated 1700mAH while original nikon is 1500.
i haven't really tested if the extra 200mA makes any difference as my usage on the camare and LCD is not really consistent. will feedback if got a chance.

now i've got 3 batteries that will keep me shooting on, and on, and on , .......

Hi there,

I compared these 1700mAH (EG) and 1500mAH (Original). The extra 200mAH gave me an approx. additional 15 pictures (without flash). A'm using D80 with 10M jpeg Fine.

be it 15 or 150, as long as it doesn't under perform the original but lower in price it is .

OT: does nikon en-el3e come in gray color? isn't original nikon batt supposed to black?

btw why are we always asked (as per manual instruction) to charge rechargeable batteries before using it? (same thing on cellphone batteries) what will happen if you use it right away after you just bought it from the store?

They always ask you to charge before using because these batteries will slowly self-discharge when they are in the warehouse/shop, waiting to be sold. Nobody knows what is the charge level inside by the time it reaches the customer so to be safe and to ensure that customer has a positive first-time experience, they always ask you to charge before use.

how about the usual advice of charging for 8 hours for first time. the charger will cut off after full charge anyway. whats the purpose of charging to 8 hours?

IF I am not wrong, when the charger light stop blinking (and you assumed it full already and stop charging), actually is only 80% from full, and there will be slow charging to the battery until reach 100%.

I might be wrong, but that's what I hear about charging Li-ION battery.

Regards,
Arto.

My EG En-el3e battery (brand is "Camera Device") is 1800mAH, I bought at October and cost me $60.
Now new batch become 1700mAH already ?

Li-ion batteries have unfortunately significant memory effect disadvantages. However for higher capacities performance they are still the best for value in the market.

1st charge just charge >6hrs, then you just do normal charge. it's the same kind of battery handphone uses nowadays.

battery life is a very delicate process to control, the 1st charge is important and so are the rest of your usage habits and the stability of the running current. bottomline, use as often as you could to maintain good battery life. KRW also wrote something interesting on batteries recently.

anyway, all said and done, any good rechargeable batteries nowadays will outlive any of our camera bodies!
bottomline, make sure you got spare when you really need one!
