anyone here using AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, i'm thinking of getting a zoom len and wondering if it is a good choice or is there any other that you friendly nikonians can recommend??
i have considered AF-S VR 18-200mm but then the distortion at 18mm i think i rather stick to my 18-70mm. |

U could consider the sigma 70-300 which seems to be highly regarded. I personally havent used one though.

since the 18-70 is not that bad ... there for perhaps should stick to it or is ok to upgrade it to 18-200?? so far, i believe that 18-200 are selling pretty hot at the moment but then wondering if its a good replacement for 18-70.
70-300 not out yet? |

I understand from Lords that the 70-300VR will be launching here in the next 1-2 weeks. Indicative price is about $900+. Unless you really need the longer zoom range of 200-300mm, I would say the 18-200VR is a more versatile lens.

Well the 70-200 will set the upper benchmark to achieve.. the older 70-300 AF-D ED will set the lower benchmark.. and we can see where the new 70-300 AF-S VR falls into.. closer to the top.. or the bottom.
I can give you one good example of a particular manufacturer.. where its 17-40 performs better then its 2x the price 16-35.. Last edited by gadrian; 7th December 2006 at 02:08 PM. Reason: typo error. |

how to 'test' where it stands? sharpness? bokeh? price? weight? weather sealed? apparently i dont think it will stand anywhere near the 70-300afd.if so, people will throw the lens back at nikon.isnt it? ![]() |

dun get overly hyped by it. this lens is going to sell like hot cakes man. but honestly, i'm not raising my hand for it. i still love my 70-200 but of course, one's a porsche, the other is a evolution. diff 'class' of lens altogether. |
