    I think my proposal is one of the odd ones. I did not propose with a ring, but a teddy bear I made.

    Actually I am suprise that the poll option stops at $1000 IMHO thats too low, should have a <$5000 and >$10000 option

    If the love between two people is only as big as the size of the engagement ring then that's quite sad.
    Its should be around 3 months of your pay, to show that you are sincere to her, willing to suffer for her and to save up the amount of $$ for her. If you are a big spender then start saving earlier, if you dont spend much then 6 months (50% of your pay then ok liao) What is importent is what your are feeling now how much you really love her, what happends later in marriage live no one can forsee. If you are not even willing to spend for your wife now then imagine 10 years later when all the excitement have faded whats going to happen...

    Probably that myth came from some female magazines just like how that 999 roses = eternal love thingy came into existence.
    Its not a myth bro, been there done that I stick to the 3 month rule, be steady when come to marriage. Dont be stingy, do it when you are ready financially. Its the biggest dream for a woman to have a great wedding (from the proposal to the Honeymoon) if you really love her so much then you will do anything for her just to make her happy.

    Proposal ring usually = Diamond Ring that she can proudly wear on her 4th finger on her right hand. Sad to hear this but teddy bear or flower dont count ya....thats more like child play to me, its not sincere at all, I can buy a room full of that anytime, anyday.

    Its the best to do everything the 1st time right so that she cant ask for a upgrade or complaint later on (Not that she wont, but less often...trust me on that)

    In the UK, it is normal to spend 1 to 2 months salary on the ring. However, I think this rule of thumb has been created by women rather than men!

My conscience would not let me buy her a ring that wasn't satisfactory in color or any of the other 4C's. People will joke but it boils down to pride, love, and money. The ring she wears is important. I spent $12,000 U.S. and bought my wife her ring in Hawaii. Also, try and get an upgrade plan (I did). Meaning if there is another ring for $15,000, we just trade in the ring and pay the $3000 difference. Usually the diamond will be laser etched for ID purposes. For me it was a personal choice but at then end of the day it's a combination or a balance that your conscience must agree with..."how much do I love her and how much can I afford."

    No right or wrong or answer, especially when it's a question that the answer lies within...within your heart and your wallet

    You guys make me laugh. Like what majority says, im happy with a simple couple ring. It doesnt have to be expensive but the feeling of being loved by that special someone. Thats enough.

    Money, rings, cars, condo cant buy love.

    3xmonthly pay is too much lah. Crazy..... I think most people spend like 3-4k on the diamond ring.

    But quite useless one leh the ring. Until now I never saw the ring again since my wedding day 2.5 years ago..... wonder what happen to it. Probably in the safe-deposit box in the bank...... waste of money

    If people can pay 7-8k for camera and 3-4k for lens then 3-4k for a diamond ring is still ok

    * happy can liao ....
