we have super experts here who really know their stuff... ya.. must crop at 100% then can tell the difference....

many a times, i have wondered if spending so much money is all worth it or not....
true, DSLR will be good when it comes to super big prints... but how often do we print super big?

jeff3tan.... you view exif right.... hee hee

pic1: the camera phone is k800i at 3.2 megapixel
    pic2: the DSLR is D200 with 17-35mm 2.8

I have another one here for you to compare ...

Same same ... don't look at exif ..!

see if u can tell . Its taken with a 3mp camera phone

    Which is which ?

The sharpness of on the sweetspot is really great but I'm sure u can tell at the corners.

    One taken by a D70 + 17-55
One taken with a Nokia N80

    first one is D70... obvious...

    first pic:
    1. the bottom left hand green trees more details
    2. the bottom right hand golden colour deco more details
    3. the green roof has more details
    4. the Ascott windows has less noise
    5. maritus windows less noise

that's my conclusion.... did not look at exif one...

the differences may still be there.. but i think the images produced by camera phones are now more comparable.. remember the days of the VGA phone? omg.. i wonder why they even produced 256 colour VGA phones?

Hm...really well done....At one glance I really can't tell the different...only when scrutinized...took me about 30seconds.....then can tell the phone pic is a little noisy and less contrast....after zoom in then I can confirm....

I think in another year or two those P&S will be obsoluted by hp cam...just like PDA....I think DSLR will still safe for a while....but we never know....technology can progress really fast

    You are both right.

I've previously seen the K800i shots before they are really good actually. Did some similar shots before as well.

Very soon the camera phones will really catch up with the pro-sumers first then the SLRs.

I was choosing the first shot for DSLR as there were dust spots on the top left side..

Then I noticed the bottom left in terms of details...

i tink not actually.... well...sensor size will always be an issue...unless they want to make a hp the size of a dslr.....

You've got to be kidding. The difference is quite obvious, and this is true even though those pictures have both been resized and compressed just a little too much. Just look at the central areas of each picture, in particular the areas of high detail (in these shots, the roof patterns).

Of course, that might simply be the actual resolution difference, but I suspect it's the lens which is the real problem - even at 3.2mp, the sensor on the cameraphone is probably very revealing, as it's almost definitely -super- tiny. I'm not sure if this will change.

Because of the choice of subject matter, these shots are also not taxing either camera, and frankly a real P&S is likely to have done as well if not better than a DSLR in this sort of situation.

Of course, you're probably generally correct and it's probably only a matter of time before an "integrated" device (like a phone) will do better than a dedicated camera in easy situations such as this one.

    ---
The real advantage of a cameraphone, however, is simply that you will always have it.
