There are a number of female PJs, but they're probably too busy going on assignments to hang around here.
One time I went to the TNP Big Walk, I saw a female PJ carrying 2 pro bodies with 1 long zoom and another smaller lens, I think total weight must be more than 10kg. Don't play play. |

In my book, even the guys in the ICA bldg who take your passport photo for $5 is a pro PG, same for all those uncles/aunties who run photo studios in hdb estates, shooting polaroid, mamiya rb67/rz67 or whatever. |

"Is your definition of professional photographer only limited to those who own run their own business like wedding photographers ? Salaried PGs take pictures for money, so they are also pros. You mean doctor work in hospital is not pro, only those with own clinic is pro ?"... I think this is a set of questions you are asking..It never was what I have defined in the first place and neither so at this moment.. I have not in any indications in writing as far as this forum is concerned; mentioned that those who run a business like wedding photographers, is a pro, it was what you said..Your mentioned of doctor who worked in hospital and those who work in clinics have no bearings to what we are driving at.! In your saying so, then the 1st question that you have asked seems contradictory to your standing.. "Is your definition of professional photographer only limited to those who own run their own business like wedding photographers ?"... Nevertheless, well said, well said, as you have indicated..."In my book, even the guys in the ICA bldg who take your passport photo for $5 is a pro PG, same for all those uncles/aunties who run photo studios in hdb estates, shooting polaroid, mamiya rb67/rz67 or whatever." So, now I know what your definition of a professional photographer is to you.. ![]()

You still have not answered the question -- why is a PJ not a professional photographer.

The above quotes can be found here http://www.photography.com/photojour...sem-photo-yhpi This is an area where events are captured so as to relate the story to others. I mentioned not necessary, I did not say it is not. As clearly shown, "The basic mission of a photojournalist is to take pictures to accompany a news story (whether it is broadcast or published in a newspaper) A photojournalist is required to possess a degree of profession in its areas of reporting..A student who enters into this area of studies & eventually works in this field is required more so in area of knowledge of academy, history, geograhy etc. They are required to know in the minimum sence how to capture the events/moments using a camera; even if it is a point and shoot camera.. You ever noticed the person doing the reporting and another holding the video/camera.. So who is the photojournalist..? An example would be in instances when many of us took pics of places, people & their culture, food, fashion etc around the world; depicting the pics of their travel experiences with others. Telling & relating in words is also a part of photojournalism..It is their part in "photojournalism" .. These are concrete pics and words as told by the person who has taken the pics and telling it in words..!! Simple as that..!!! Hence, it is exactly why I used the word not necessary; there is a difference between reporting & photography... Again, be mindful, I did not say a photojournalist is not a pro photographer (as you like to call), just that it may not necessary be in some cases.. One who does the reporting is also the photographer, and I said may NOT NECESSARY be a Professional Photographer..But in this case a professional reporter if this is what you are referring to.. When we capture an event, moment, people, places etc and related it in words to others; do you consider it professional's work. Again, with due respect not necessary.. As far as I am concerned, I am definitely not lah.. Apparently, you seems to agree that the aunties that take your passport photos, the ICA guys that take your photos have been categorized as professionals in your words in this forum; I reckon if that is your definition of professional photography..? You really have to be careful in your words to avoid any misunderstanding. Anyway, I am not here to debate for no apparent cause.. If you have been offended bcos of my words, I am sorry for that. Please pardon me for my incapacities and understanding in this area.Just my 2 cents worth.. ![]()
