The TC only works with pro lenses because their mechanical design. the design of a pro lens vs consumer lens is different.

for examle u can use with :

300/4 APO
300/2.8 APO
400/4.5 APO
600/4 APO

the TC have a protruding front element. look at your tamron, does the rear has a deep and wide opening ? The Minolta lenses listed above got a deep and wide opening to fit the TC.

I see. I'm a complete greenhorn where this is concern so I'll ask a stoopid question. U mean u put the TC behind the lens next to the body of the camera and not stack it in front of the lens like a filter?? In which case then any lens will do right?

But of course if the standard way is to mount the TC behind the lens, then I think my Tamron, and Sigma lens all don't have that so called depression lor. Although my Minolta 50mm f/1.7 also like don't have leh!

yup, at least for film slr, your mount the TC behind the lens, unlike DC you mount infront.

i checked, the back of my tamron and lenses are different. the minolta lens is flat while there are concentric grooves (openings ??) for the tamron lens.

anyway, the best is to bring the camera and lens down to the shop.

any recommendation on the TC and the expected price (new and 2nd hand)?

kenko is the most talk about TC . I planning to get the 3x one leh. Since you are also getting, why not you call up CP and ask for the price?

they counter-proposed teleplus.
