when we import .mov files(which is animation formate originally) to iMovies, why the high res quality lost? i do not think i set the preference wrongly......is it becoz this software is comsumer type?so got its limits?
and i start to domy video in final Cut pro. why i can not view those trans and effect after i put in to ?and the most stupid thing is ,,,,,how to split video clips there? how come this software not as user-friendly as other mac softwars...i tried tried..still blur~ another thing is how to convert those iDVD project to .mov or any media files instead burn the project into a dvd,? I searched internet, but not found yet. and any 高手(big guy) tell me how?thanks a lot~

you did set the prefs wrong
but setting it to display better quality would mean slowing down your computer iDVD projects cannot become quicktime files edit in iMovie and save as quicktime

When you import into iMovie, it gets converted to DV which is a compressed format. That's why it won't look as good as when it's in Animation (the codec, not the form).

You want good quality? Use Apple Uncompressed 8 or 10-bit in Final Cut Pro. iMovie only allows you to use DV. |

A few things:
"existing clips in imovie are not so clear": The preview function of imovie is deliberately more pixelated so that it will run smoother. Like what Ortega mentioned, set tp a higher quality preview, but it will then depend on how fast is your machine/ram, for the preview to be any satisfactory. "fonts looks unsharp in imovie". I did have this problem. and the conclusion after troving the depths of the internet, it is the limitation of imovie. It has a consumer range compression, such that when you output, the image quality is not as sharp as when you output in Final cut Express, or final Cut Pro where you can select the compression to use. Apparently, when you add photos AND text, the quality drops further. It was suppose to be a bug in imovie after version 4, that never quite got fix in 5. I haven't tried imovie 6 HD yet. One stupid way to do it, I suspect, is to output this back onto a NEW mini DV tape, and then use another software to do the compression/encoding into format you want. Or play it straight from the miniDV camera. |

thanks for explaining the reason about unsharp fonts. i already starts using LIVETYPE or motion to add in fonts. u know, that is very troublesome. so wandering are there any chance i could get a bettr fonts visual in imoview. now, give up~ and a bout the last thing.......haha yes stupid. ..hehe i did that .....wasted a few tapes. ai...pity...until i find there is liveType and final cut studio thing........ thank you~~!

Animation, DV, JPEG, Uncompressed 4:2:2 are usually terms to describe video codecs, i.e. how they are encoded and stored on as data. There are advantages and disadvantages to using different codecs, one of them being quality. iMovie works using the DV codec natively which is a lower quality codec compared to Animation. |
